Can Fury Continue His Undefeated Streak?

There’s no doubt about it: Tyson Fury is one of the greatest heavyweights that boxing has ever seen, further cemented by the fact that he’s 31-0-1 in his 32 career matches.

Fury will enter his matchup against Whyte riding a four-fight winning streak. Three of his last four wins have come by KO or TKO, with a pair of those three victories coming in his last two fights against Deontay Wilder.

Wilder certainly gave Fury a run for his money in the final meeting of their trilogy in October 2021, however, it was the Gypsy King that emerged the victor after an 11th-round knockout.

Fury’s history alone makes it easy to see why he’s the heavy betting favorite across the board. Few have even come close to beating him, let alone giving him a legitimate challenge.

As great as Whyte can be, Fury consistently backs up everything he says in the ring and will have some extra motivation to get the job done on Saturday.

After all, Fury vs. Whyte serves as a homecoming for the former. The Gypsy King hasn’t fought in the U.K. since he defeated Francesco Pianeta in August 2018, so you can only assume that he’s looking forward to being the home crowd hero on Saturday.

Yes, Whyte did move to England with his family when he was 12 years old, however, there’s no comparing his popularity to the fandom that Fury brings to the table. Besides, the former has fought in the United Kingdom as recently as August 2020.

At the end of the day, this is clearly Fury’s fight to lose and only time will tell if he can add another accolade to his long list of accomplishments when the final bell rings.

Will Whyte Pull Off the Upset?

Nobody has to tell Dillian Whyte that he’s the heavy underdog in his upcoming fight against Fury. It’s tough to compare with someone who’s accomplished so much, after all.

Nevertheless, Whyte has enough to be proud of as he enters the ring this Saturday.

Although he isn’t undefeated, Whyte has impressively won 12 of his last 13 outings, giving him an overall career record of 28-2-0.

He defeated Óscar Rivas for the WBC interim heavyweight championship back in July 2019 and, ultimately, made one successful defense against Mariusz Wach before losing it to Alexander Povetkin, by TKO, in August 2020.

Povetkin’s TKO victory left Whyte wanting revenge, which is exactly what he got when the two squared off for the second time in March 2021.

This fight ended differently, resulting in a fourth-round TKO victory for Whyte this time, reclaiming the WBC interim heavyweight title in the process.

Even if he’s still buzzing with momentum from his last win, it’s clear that he has a lot on his plate when he meets Fury in the ring. It’s going to be the biggest fight of his career and if he can manage to pull off the upset, he’ll etch his name in the history books as the first-ever man to dethrone the Gypsy King.
