Week 9 of the 2022 Canadian Football League season is here, bringing us one step closer to crowning this year’s Grey Cup champions. Nevertheless, there’s still a bit of a journey to get there and CFL fans must first make it through this week’s four exciting matchups.
The Week 9 action begins with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (8-0) trying to remain undefeated as they go up against the Montreal Alouettes (2-5) on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. ET. The Calgary Stampeders (4-2) and Ottawa RedBlacks (1-6) will then collide at 7:30 p.m. ET on Friday.
Fans are then treated to a pair of contests on Saturday. First, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2-5) and Toronto Argonauts (3-3) go head-to-head at 7 p.m. ET before the Edmonton Elks (2-5) attempt to upset the BC Lions (5-1) at 10 p.m. ET.
As usual, there’s only one team with a bye week and that happens to be the Saskatchewan Roughriders (4-4).
Here’s a look at BetOnline Sportsbook’s odds for the CFL Week 9 matchups, as well as a prediction for each game.

CFL Week 9 Predictions and Picks
Winnipeg Blue Bombers vs. Montreal Alouettes Betting Odds and Prediction
- Spread: Winnipeg Blue Bombers -5.5 (-110), Montreal Alouettes +5.5 (-110)
- Total: OVER 47 (-110), UNDER 47 (-110)
- Moneyline: Winnipeg Blue Bombers -210, Montreal Alouettes +175
Odds are via BetOnline Sportsbook.
It’s a new week and the Blue Bombers are still undefeated. They trailed the Stampeders by one point entering last week’s fourth quarter, only to end up winning the game, 35-28. A lot of credit is going to Zach Collaros’ work under center after completing 22-of-30 passes for 270 yards and a whopping four touchdowns.
Meanwhile, the Alouettes couldn’t get much down against the Tiger-Cats, losing 24-17. The most embarrassing part is that Montreal had only scored six total points through the first three quarters, which won’t cut it more often than not. Wideout Eugene Lewis was the star performer with eight catches for 154 yards, so time will tell if he can build on it.
At the end of the day, there’s a reason why the Blue Bombers are the road favorites here. They’re just that good and I don’t expect Montreal to slow them down.
Prediction: Blue Bombers 34, Alouettes 18
Best Bet: Blue Bombers -5.5 (-110)
Calgary Stampeders vs. Ottawa RedBlacks Betting Odds and Prediction
- Spread: Calgary Stampeders -5.5 (-110), Ottawa RedBlacks +5.5 (-110)
- Total: OVER 50 (-110), UNDER 50 (-110)
- Moneyline: Calgary Stampeders -210, Ottawa RedBlacks +175
Odds are via BetOnline Sportsbook.
The Stampeders came this close to handing the Blue Bombers their first loss of the season. It was a valiant effort that Calgary must build upon this week. Fortunately, the Stampeders own the second-best offense in the CFL, averaging 31.5 points per game, which should come in handy against an Ottawa defense surrendering an average of 25.4 points.
Nevertheless, the RedBlacks do have some momentum on their side after winning their first game of the 2022 campaign. It was a hard-fought 23-13 victory over the Argos that saw WR Jaelon Acklin turn seven receptions into 144 yards and a touchdown. Defensive back Abdul Kanneh also led all Ottawa players with seven tackles.
At the end of the day, the RedBlacks just aren’t that good despite last week’s win. The Stampeders have been a top-three team this year and I feel like they’ll prove that decisively on Friday.
Prediction: Stampeders 32, RedBlacks 21
Best Bet: Over 50 Points (-110)
Hamilton Tiger-Cats vs. Toronto Argonauts Betting Odds and Prediction
- Spread: Hamilton Tiger-Cats +2 (-110), Toronto Argonauts -2 (-110)
- Total: OVER 45 (-110), UNDER 45 (-110)
- Moneyline: Hamilton Tiger-Cats +110, Toronto Argonauts -130
Odds are via BetOnline Sportsbook.
The Tiger-Cats have won two of their last three games, picking up last week’s aforementioned victory over the Alouettes. Despite being in control for most of the game, Hamilton was outscored 11-0 in the final frame, highlighting a need to close out matchups more efficiently.
Meanwhile, the Argonauts are looking for revenge after the RedBlacks stopped their two-game winning streak. Toronto currently owns the worst offense in the East Division, averaging just 19.8 points per game. If the Argos can’t generate offense early on, Hamilton’s solid defense could make life fairly tough.
Despite the Argonauts being the home favorites, I’m calling on the Tiger-Cats for the road upset.
Prediction: Tiger-Cats 25, Argonauts 20
Best Bet: Tiger-Cats ML (+110)
Edmonton Elks vs. BC Lions Betting Odds and Prediction
- Spread: Edmonton Elks +10.5 (-110), BC Lions -10.5 (-110)
- Total: OVER 51.5 (-110), UNDER 51.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: Edmonton Elks +380, BC Lions -490
Odds are via BetOnline Sportsbook.
There are no bigger underdogs this week than the Elks, and for good reason too. They previously faced the Lions in Week 1 of the CFL season, losing embarrassingly in the form of a 59-15 final score. It’s one of the biggest blowouts of the campaign thus far and it’s going to take a monumental effort from the lowly Elks to avoid repeating history.
The Lions are feeling good about themselves after winning back-to-back games once again. They enter the weekend following a 32-17 victory over the Roughriders last week that saw QB Nathan Rourke pass for 336 yards and a pair of TDs while defensive lineman Mathieu Betts paced all BC players with a pair of sacks.
If it wasn’t for the Blue Bombers, the Lions would be the best team in the CFL. Keeping that in mind, I expect them to beat up on the Elks once again.
Prediction: Lions 39, Elks 15
Best Bet: Over 51.5 Points (-110)
