In the final race before Formula 1 takes its summer break, Max Verstappen will look to pick up his seventh straight win in Sunday’s Hungarian Grand Prix.
Along with being the last race until the Dutch Grand Prix on August 27, the Hungarian Grand Prix will mark the halfway point of the 22-race season.
Anyone hoping that we’d see some semblance of a compelling World Drivers’ Championship race will already be disappointed at this juncture of the Formula 1 season, as Verstappen is running away with a third straight title.
At this point, the only questions appear to be when, not if, he will break last season’s record of 15 wins and if someone else will be able to win a race.
Things don’t look particularly promising with the latter right now, but there is still some betting value worth pursuing. My Hungarian Grand Prix betting picks are below, but first, let’s take a look at race odds, courtesy of Bovada.

Hungarian Grand Prix Predictions & Picks
Verstappen is likely going to make it seven straight wins and nine for the season, but for the second straight race, he didn’t beat his closest challenge by a mile.
After besting Charles Leclerc by a little over five seconds at the Austrian Grand Prix, he crossed the finish line less than four seconds ahead of Lando Norris at the British Grand Prix two weeks ago.
That was his closest margin of victory since the Australian Grand Prix in April, and it was the first time five or more drivers had been within 15 seconds of the winner since that race.
But that doesn’t mean that the rest of the field is getting close enough to overtake Verstappen and actually take the checkered flag ahead of him, so I would recommend holding off on making any bold upset picks for the Hungarian Grand Prix.
With that said, let’s take a look at where on the board the betting value is for this race.
Verstappen has been on the pole, won the race, and recorded the fastest lap of the race four times this season, including three of the last four races. He is +150 to record another Triple Crown at the Hungarian Grand Prix, and those odds are pretty appealing with the results he has been producing.
After a positive drive and a third-place finish at the Austrian Grand Prix, Sergio Perez took two steps back at the British Grand Prix, finishing sixth.
It was his fourth non-podium finish in his last five races, a run that is only magnified by what his Red Bull teammate is doing at the same time.
Current Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship Standings (Through 10 of 22 Races)
- 1. Max Verstappen – 255 points
- 2. Sergio Perez – 156
- 3. Fernando Alonso – 137
- 4. Lewis Hamilton – 121
- 5. Carlos Sainz Jr. – 83
- 6. George Russell – 82
- 7. Charles Leclerc – 74
- 8. Lance Stroll – 44
- 9. Lando Norris – 42
- 10. Esteban Ocon – 31
While that appears to be significantly damaging Perez’s chances to remain at Red Bull long term, it does present some good betting value for what should be a high-achieving car and driver.
Ahead of Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying, odds for a top-three finish for Perez comes in at -125. Also, the odds come in at evens for both Red Bull cars to finish on the podium. Both of those bets should cash, but if they don’t, it likely will not be a pleasant way for Perez to enter the summer break.
While Perez’s frustrating run continues, things are trending up for Lando Norris. After finishing a season-best fourth at the Austrian Grand Prix, he topped that with his first podium of the season at the British Grand Prix.
Can he keep it up at the Hungarian Grand Prix? He is +250 to record his second straight podium, which makes him a solid option for a lower-risk, higher-reward play.
This weekend will also be the debut for Daniel Ricciardo with AlphaTauri, as he has made the move from being Red Bull’s third driver to take Nyck de Vries’s spot for the rest of the season.
The best finish that de Vries managed in his ten races this season was a 12th-place finish at the Monaco Grand Prix, but Ricciardo will be expected to push for points. Will he score finish inside the points in the Hungarian Grand Prix? He is +200 for a top-ten finish, and that is another lower-risk, higher-reward play that I really like.
While there hasn’t been very much variety at the very front most of this season, there has been some good variety behind Verstappen. He, Perez, and Fernando Alonso finished as the podium trio three times in the first five races, but the top three hasn’t been made up of the same names in consecutive races since the first two races this season.
If you think the same podium trio from the British Grand Prix will be the podium trio for the Hungarian Grand Prix, you can back the Verstappen, Norris, Hamilton any order tricast for +650.

There are a number of online sportsbooks that are good for betting on F1, but the above books are four that we highly recommend.
