After Jon Rahm won the Mexico Open over the weekend, the golf world is turning its attention to the next stop on the 2022 PGA TOUR: the annual Wells Fargo Championship.
This year’s tournament is taking place at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm in Potomac, Maryland from Thursday, May 5 to Sunday, May 8. This year’s purse is at a record-high of $9 million, with the winner taking home a $1.62 million share of the total.
Last year’s Wells Fargo Championship was won by three-time champion Rory McIlroy. No other golfer has won the event multiple times, so it’ll be interesting to see if he can continue dominating.
Keeping that in mind, here’s a look at the odds and best bets to make ahead of this week’s tournament.

Best Bets for the 2022 Wells Fargo Championship
Rory McIlroy (+700)
As mentioned before, nobody has dominated the Wells Fargo Championship quite like McIlroy and it wouldn’t be a shock to see him win it all again in 2022.
It takes a lot of effort to win a tournament once, but McIlroy has done so three times already since 2010.
McIlroy captured the 2021 title when he shot 10-under-par, finishing one stroke ahead of the runner-up, Abraham Ancer. While that was impressive, the former’s best performance came in 2015 when he finished a tournament-best 21-under-par.
While all of that happened in the past, the truth is that McIlroy has also been relatively solid on the 2022 PGA TOUR. He’s placed inside of the top-25 in four of the six events he’s competed in, which includes winning the CJ Cup back in October.
Although he hasn’t won an event since then, McIlroy did place second in his last outing at the Masters Tournament nearly a month ago. With him still riding the high of that placement, expect another strong showing from the 32-year-old veteran this week.
Corey Conners (+2100)
This year’s Wells Fargo Championship’s field isn’t as deep as past years, which is why it makes sense to consider someone like Corey Conners to win it all.
The 30-year-old Canadian has been solid throughout the 2022 golf season. He’s yet to win a tournament, however, he’s only failed to make the cut in three of his 14 events and has event seen seven top-25 placements.
Conners seems to be hitting his stride lately, placing 12th or better in four of his last six events. He placed third at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play back in March and even finished T-6 at the Masters, so it’s safe to say that he could be building towards something big.
Although he hasn’t exactly played well at the Wells Fargo Championship, he did have a hole-in-one at last year’s event. Granted, it’s a different course this year, but it shows that Conners can step up when it counts and could see his first win of the season if he plays his cards right.
Tony Finau (+2100)
Much like Conners, Tony Finau is also a solid option at +2100 odds to win the 2022 Wells Fargo Championship.
Finau has faced his fair share of ups and downs on the current tour. On one hand, his two top-25 performances in 13 outings have left a lot to be desired.
On the other hand, he just placed T-2 at the Mexico Open over the weekend, which is the type of performance that could propel him to do something special at TPC Potomac.
Finau has placed T-60 or worse in each of his last two Wells Fargo Championship appearances, however, he also has a pair of top-25 showings in two of his three previous outings before that.
Normally, it’d be tough to recommend Finau based on his recent history, however, he does have a realistic shot of winning due to this year’s relatively weak field.
Max Homa (+4200)
If bettors are looking for an option with more value, perhaps Max Homa is someone worth considering. After all, it’s never wise to count out a former champion.
Homa took home his first and only Wells Fargo Championship title in 2019, winning by three strokes over the runner-up, Joel Dahmen.
He was impressive throughout his showing three years ago, with his best performance coming when he shot a 63 in Round 2. A lot of time may have passed since then, but it wouldn’t be surprising if Homa called on that experience to help him with another deep run.
While the 31-year-old has seven top-25 placements in 13 showings on the 2022 PGA TOUR, Homa has only placed 10th or better on two occasions. Fortunately for him, one of those instances came when he won the Fortinet Championship.
Furthermore, Homa has also placed 20th or better in seven of his last 10 outings, which puts him in a good place to have a strong showing in Potomac this week.
