The opening event of the 2024 PGA Tour season is missing its defending champion with Jon Rahm having defected to LIV Golf, but The Sentry has not been short on excitement—and low scores—through the first three rounds.
Entering the final round in Kapalua, Hawaii, the man at the top of the leaderboard is Chris Kirk (-21), with Akshay Bhatia a stroke behind (-20).
Behind Kirk and Bhatia lurk some of the biggest names in golf.
Rahm, who is ranked third in the current Official World Golf Ranking may have taken the money and run to LIV, and world number two Rory McIlroy has once again opted not to start his season in Hawaii
But number one Scottie Scheffler, 2023 FedEx Cup champion Viktor Hovland, and all the rest of the best on the PGA Tour are taking part in The Sentry, and Scheffler is one of the big names in contention after 54 holes.
The Sentry Leaderboard (Entering the Final Round)
- 1. Chris Kirk (-21)
- 2. Akshay Bhatia (-20)
- T3. Byeong-Hun An (-19)
- T3. Xander Schauffele (-19)
- T3. Jordan Spieth (-19)
- T6. Jason Day (-18)
- T6. Harris English (-18)
- T6. Scottie Scheffler (-18)
- T6. Sahith Theegala (-18)
- T10. Patrick Cantlay (-17)
- T10. Matthew Fitzpatrick (-17)
- T10. Collin Morikawa (-17)
- T10. J.T. Poston (-17)
In Scheffler, Cantlay (5th), Schauffele (6th), and Fitzpatrick (8th), four of the world’s top ten golfers are in the top ten at The Sentry, while Morikawa (13th), Spieth (15th), and Day (19th) are ranked in the top 20.
But will one of the PGA Tour’s stars take home the trophy and the $3,600,000 winner’s check? Or will Kirk, a five-time winner on the PGA Tour, including last year’s Honda Classic, nearly match his winnings from all of last season in one fell swoop?
A victory in this tournament could prove to be a sign of things to come for the winner.

Each of the last two years, the winner of The Sentry has gone on to a win a major. Last year, Rahm won The Masters, while 2022 winner Cameron Smith won the British Open later that year.
If you are invested in Schauffele or Cantlay to finally win a major title in 2024, that might give you extra reason to back them to take the win in Kapalua.
It’s no surprise that the leader sits atop the tournament winner odds entering his final round, which is set to begin at 2:45 pm ET (9:45 am local time). But Schauffele, Spieth, and Scheffler are not far behind, along with Bhatia, the 21-year-old who claimed his maiden PGA Tour win this past August at the Barracuda Championship.
Odds to Win The Sentry
- Chris Kirk +400
- Xander Schauffele +450
- Jordan Spieth +600
- Scottie Scheffler +650
- Akshay Bhatia +800
- Byeong-Hun An +1200
- Jason Day +1800
- Sahith Theegala +1800
- Collin Morikawa +2200
- Patrick Cantlay +2500
- Harris English +2500
- Matthew Fitzpatrick +3500
There will be a lot of live betting action to consider over the final round if you are looking to get some bets in while following the final day of the NFL regular season, but when it comes to bets to make beforehand, the bet I like the most is Scheffler (-125 at BetOnline) to post the best round in a three-ball bet between him, Day (+270), and Theegala (+290).
