As we reach the last days of August, the 2022 PGA TOUR is approaching its end. Before we get there, though, the top 30 money leaders from the season must first compete at this week’s Tour Championship.
Beginning on Thursday, Aug. 25, this year’s tournament will take place once again at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia. The 7,346-yard course was first established in 1987 and has par set at 70.
Patrick Cantlay narrowly defeated Jon Rahm by a single stroke at last year’s event to take home the 2021 Tour Championship. Only time will tell who’s fortunate enough to win it all this week.
BetOnline Sportsbook’s latest 2022 Tour Championship odds help shed some light on how the tournament could unfold. So, let’s take a look at those odds, as well as some of the best betting picks for the week.

Best Bets for the 2022 Tour Championship
Patrick Cantlay to Win (+430)
Patrick Cantlay was Betting News’ top pick to win the BMW Championship over the weekend and he came through. With that momentum on his side, it’d hardly be surprising if he comes close to winning the Tour Championship in back-to-back years.
For starters, Cantlay has placed T-14 or better in 10 of his last 11 events. While that’s impressive on its own, six of those appearances saw him finish with a top-four placement.
Aside from last weekend’s victory, he also won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans over that stretch and finished second at the RBC Heritage and Rocket Mortgage Classic over that stretch.
Although he’s only played at the East Lake Golf Club four times in his career, Cantlay placed T-20, T-21 and T-21 in his three previous entries before his victory. It still remains to be seen if last year was a fluke or not.
Nevertheless, momentum is on Cantlay’s side and that makes him dangerous. Lock him in as a top betting option in Atlanta this week.
Xander Schauffele to Win (+800)
Xander Schauffele has had his fair shares of highs and lows ahead of the 2022 Tour Championship. Fortunately, the good times have outweighed the bad as he’s one of the few competitors this week who’ve won multiple titles this season.
Schauffele has secured victories at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans (with Cantlay), Travelers Championship and Scottish Open. He also enters this week’s tournament fresh off a T-3 finish at the BMW Championship, leaving him to build off that.
What also makes Schauffele a great Tour Championship pick is his tournament consistency. The 28-year-old has entered the event five times in his career, never finishing worse than seventh. He’s placed fifth or better four times, finishing as the back-to-back runner-up in 2019 and 2020 while winning it all in 2017.
With tournament and recent history like that, it’s hard not to like Schauffele at the East Lake Golf Club.
Rory McIlroy to Win (+1000)
Rory McIlroy is one of three golfers who’ve accomplished a specific Tour Championship feat over the years. Winning the tournament in both 2016 and 2019, he joined Tiger Woods (3) and Phil Mickelson (2) as the only other men to have won the event multiple times.
The good news is that McIlroy has cracked the top-10 in six of his eight Tour Championship appearances. He did place 14th last year, though, so he’ll need a stronger effort this time around.
Nonetheless, he has seven top-10 finishes in his last 10 outings this year, giving him some much-needed momentum. On top of that, he has a trio of top-three placements in that span, proving that he can come close to winning it all.
Justin Thomas to Win (+2600)
At first glance, Justin Thomas may not seem like an encouraging pick. After all, he’s finished T-37 or worse in five of his last seven events.
Fortunately, he’s come fairly close to winning the Tour Championship quite often in recent years. While he’s still searching for his first victory at the event, he’s placed seventh or better in each of his six entries, with his best showings being a pair of second-place finishes in 2017 and 2020.
Even if you aren’t confident in Thomas going all the way, he’s still a good candidate for a top-5 or top-10 finish once BetOnline releases those markets later this week. Either way, he isn’t someone you should write off just yet.
