2023 Wells Fargo Championship Odds, Predictions, and Picks

This week’s PGA Tour stop will see many of the biggest names in golf tee it up at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, for the 2023 Wells Fargo Championship.
This tournament is the sixth designated event of the PGA Tour season, and it carries with it a total prize purse of $20 million.
Last year, Max Homa joined three-time winner Rory McIlroy as the only two golfers to win the Wells Fargo Championship multiple times. His 8-under 272 saw him finish two strokes ahead of Keegan Bradley, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Cameron Young.
Last year’s tournament was held at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm in Potomac, Maryland because of Quail Hollow hosting the Presidents Cup in September.
Now it is back at Quail Hollow, where Homa will look to become the first person to win the tournament on back-to-back occasions.
He isn’t among the leading favorites as we look ahead to tomorrow’s first round, but McIlroy is. In fact, he sits at the head of the line as the favorite to lift the trophy at Quail Hollow, which he did the last time the tournament was held there in 2021.

Tournament Winner Prediction: Rory McIlroy (+700)
The last time I did one of these, I picked Jon Rahm to win the Masters last month. And who won the Masters last month? Jon Rahm, who won his second major title by four shots over Brooks Koepka and Phil Mickelson after entering the final round trailing Koepka by two shots.
Now, that says absolutely nothing about how my Wells Fargo Championship winner prediction will fare, because no one will 100 percent of the time.
But Rahm made a lot of sense because of his form this season, a previous positive history at Augusta, and the fact that history did not favor the world number one, tournament favorite, and defending champion, Scottie Scheffler.
So, who is the best man to back for the win at Quail Hollow? It may seem like an easy pick to make, but I’m rolling with McIlroy to get it done.
This is his first tournament since missing the cut at Augusta, and prior, he missed the cut at the Players Championship in March.
The last time he missed consecutive cuts was in 2021, when he missed the cut at the Players Championship and then missed the cut at the Masters, then returned with a Wells Fargo Championship win.
That wasn’t the first time he has done that. In 2010, he missed the cut at the Shell Houston Open and then at Augusta, then marked his return a few weeks later by winning at Quail Hollow.
Also, it’s not like he especially needs the money, but after missing consecutive cuts and then after not playing in the RBC Heritage last month, which meant forfeiting $3 million of his Player Impact Program funds, it would no doubt be nice to get his hands on the winner’s check this weekend.
Tournament Picks
Max Homa to finish in the top 10 (+280)
Homa has missed the cut in his last two events, failing to make the weekend at the RBC Heritage and at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
But I like him to have a return to form this week, even if he doesn’t defend his tournament title. Last year’s Wells Fargo Championship may not have been at Quail Hollow, but his 2019 win was, and I think he will have a positive week there.
Viktor Hovland to finish in the top 10 (+190)
In his most recent tournament appearance, Hovland finished 59th at the RBC Heritage. But prior to that, he finished tied for seventh at the Masters, tied for 3rd at the Players Championship, and tied for 10th at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Also, in his previous Wells Fargo Championship appearance at Quail Hollow in 2021, he finished tied for 3rd, two strokes behind McIlroy.
Sungjae Im to finish in the top 20 (+105)
In his previous appearances in this tournament at Quail Hollow, Im has finished tied for 31st (2019) and missed the cut (2021).
But when he missed the cut two years ago, he started out with a 68 before imploding with an 82 in the second round, so it wasn’t all bad.
Also, at last year’s Presidents Cup, Im was one of the top scorers for the International team. He was one of five International Players to win in singles play, and he collected 2.5 points total, which was tied for second-best on the team.
For what it’s worth, the best performer on the International team was Si Woo Kim, who scored three points. He is +310 to finish in the top 20 this week, which could also merit your consideration.
