Black Eyed Susan Stakes: Friday Pimlico Analysis, Selections

The Black Eyed Susan will be run Friday at Pimlico. The race is the sister race to the Preakness like the Oaks to the Derby at Churchill Downs.

Going off as race number 13 on the card the Black Eyed Susan will be the Friday feature. Unfortunately, like its brother race on Saturday, the stars from Kentucky have chosen other paths going forward. Secret Oath will take on the boys in the Preakness. Other short prices like Kathleen O., Echo Zulu, and Nest are not entered here.

• #10 ADARE MANOR (5-2) has a great shot in the race given the speed & class. This one was supposed to romp in the Santa Anita Oaks, so if you can forgive that effort she is the clear front runner here.
• #6 LUNA BELLE (9-2) is in with a great chance based on the horse's record at the distance & early pace numbers.
• #7 DISTINCTLYPOSSIBLE (6-1) is proven as a good bet to at least hit the board at the mile and 1/8 distance.
• #11 RADIO DAYS (12-1) is bred to like this distance and is worth a look.

• #14 HARD TO BE HUMBLE (7-2) has to be respected today edging the field in several key handicapping factors including class & pace numbers.
• #6 PRINCE PERE (10-1) should be competitive today based on the horse's speed figures. This one is running well of late.
• #8 CREDIT RIVER (9-2) has very competitive speed figures to be in the mix with this group.
• #10 LANTAU (15-1) will have to work out a trip but has been really good in these sharp turf sprints.

• #8 MISS MIDNIGHT (8-1) should be forward early. At 8-1 against this lot, its a good value bet.
• #5 FOUL BALLS (7-2) should be ready to run on debut and is worth a look. This is probably the first time start that best combines value and chance of winning.
• #6 UTTERLY COURAGEOUS (12-1) is a major player in today's race edging the field in several key handicapping factors including speed figures.
• #1 RUN RAEGAN RUN (8-5) will be taking plenty of barn money on debut

• #10 NEVER EXPLAIN (7-2) looks to have to have kept the best company in the previous starts.
• #9 ARTISTIC ENDEAVOR (6-1) is proven as a good bet to at least hit the board under today's distance and surface conditions.
• #1 PHARAOH'S TRIUMPH (12-1) should be competitive today based on the horse's speed figures
• #6 ROYNE (8-1) could get a perfect pace scenario today.

• #4 MAJESTIC FRONTIER (10-1) is worth a look here given edges in class & connections.
• #8 HEFFNER (5-1) could get the best of race flow in this spot
• #3 RUSTYS GFIVEFIFTY (3-1) looks to be ready to run a career best and that would make this one very competitive in this wide open race.

• #3 NOTTOWAY (2-1) makes a ton of sense in this spot and the three hole may be perfect for this runner.
• #2 VULCAN (9-2) should be ready to put in a top effort in this spot.
• #8 COOP TRIES HARDER (4-1) is worth a look here given edges in connections & record at the distance.
• #9 PAPAL LAW (10-1) will likely have the stamina to outlast these in the final jumps of the race.

Post: 2:04 PM ET; Purse: $58,000 Allowance, 6 Furlongs on Dirt; Entries: 9

• #3 ESCAPE FUND (9-2) could get a perfect pace scenario today.
• #5 AWFULLY FOXY (5-1) looks to be in really good form right now and may be able to outrun the paper on this one.
• #2 ANOTHER WOMAN (8-5) is favored because of speed figures that are just better than these, but only by a couple of points which is equal to about a length.
• #6 TWEET AWAY ROBIN (6-1) is a nice price given the runners this one has been up against of late.

• #2 MANDATE (7-2) should be competitive today based on the horse's speed & early foot.
• #11 HEALING (3-1) is worth a look here given edges in record at the distance & power rating.
• #9 BALLAGH ROCKS (8-1) looks to have to have kept the best company in the previous starts.
• #16 B DETERMINED (15-1) needs some help to get in but if this one can work out a trip I like this one to pump up the verticals.

• #6 FROST POINT (3-1) rates out extremely well in all major statistical categories.
• #1 EXOTIC WEST (3-1) is a major player in today's race edging the field in several key handicapping factors including speed figures. This one is in great form right now.
• #4 SUPER QUICK (5-2) is in with a great chance based on the horse's race flow & power rating.
• #5 LIL KINGS PRINCESS (9-2) is one of those who always finds the board in these types of races. I’m not sure about a win, but I like this one to be involved at the end.

Post: 3:36 PM ET; Purse: $100,000 Hilltop S., 1 Mile on Turf; Entries: 8

• #4 PIZZA BIANCA (4-5) is the most likely winner on the card. Along with superior speed figures this one is in top form.
• #3 HAIL TO (12-1) has the next best speed figures on the turf and at this price, this horse may be the key to getting any value on the favorite.
• #5 DETERMINED STAR (20-1) could get a perfect pace scenario today. It likely won’t get this one to the winner’s circle, but again, this one may be value if Pizza Bianca runs her race.
• #6 DIAMOND HANDS (5-1) likes the turf mile but she appears to have run into a buzz saw here.

• #8 GIMMICK (10-1) should be competitive based on the overall power rating which has it tops in the group.
• #3 LADY SCARLET (6-1) is worth a look here given edges in record at the distance & early pace numbers.

• #6 CAN THE QUEEN (12-1) is a long shot with a good draw to work out a trip.
• #11 SPUN GLASS (8-1) is another outside player who may get the best of the pace scenario in today’s race.

• #9 TREASURE TROVE (12-1) is a live long shot worth a look underneath.
• #3 UNTREATED (7-2) is a definite player, but doesn’t provide much value here.
