Churchill Downs Saturday: Claiming Crown Hopes Turf Return Possible

On Friday all turf races were taken off on the Churchill Downs grass course. The decision was made after rains hammered the area. CDI is hopeful to get back on the grass Saturday.

Churchill Downs- Race 1

Post: 1:00 PM ET; $26k Claiming going 1 1/16 miles on dirt; Entries: 7

• #2 JUSTIN'S QUEST (2-1) gets the top selection. He shouldn't have trouble with the 1 1/16 mile distance.
• #4 MONEY FOR MISCHIEF (3-1) projects to sit mid pack and come with one run.
• #7 MASON A. P. (10-1) should be sitting in the second tier of runners and looking to make one well timed run at the leaders.
• #6 IMPROBABLE STORY (5-1) has races good enough to beat this group. This one will likely be in the first flight of runners and should be in with a chance late.

Post: 1:30 PM ET; $134k Allowance Optional Claiming going 6 1/2 furlongs on dirt; Entries: 8

• #6 STROBE (3-5) is the top pick. He has races good enough to beat this group. This one has the top overall power rating in the group.
• #4 KNOCKER DOWN (6-1) has to be respected going out for the combination of Garcia and Jordan. This one could be a dangerous threat to get loose on the front end.
• #1 SPANKSTER (6-1) has solid early pace figures in a race that looks to lack a ton of front running speed.
• #7 SURFER DUDE (15-1) is a price horse and comes into the race in really good form.

• #4 GHOSTLY GIRL (7-2) looks best here. She makes sense on speed figures. This one comes into the race in really good form.
• #2 BOLT FOR ALLISON (5-1) looks to be the class of the field.
• #11 GUNS N' LILIES (8-1) should be part of the early pace in this spot. This one is well bred for this spot.
• #3 MISS PEABODY (4-1) has races good enough to beat this group. This one goes out for the Newton barn and gets Parker in the irons.

• #2 BAD BEAT BRIAN (5-2) gets the top selection. He has races good enough to beat this group. This one goes out for the Vanden barn and gets Emigh in the irons.
• #10 CHASING ARTIE (4-1) really likes these 5 1/2 furlong sprints.
• #7 BOAT'S A ROCKIN (5-1) has to be respected going out for the combination of Kulp and Conner.
• #1 SPYCRAFT (5-1) has been really solid in recent starts and should be ready to run a big one here.
