Del Mar Saturday: 2 Year Olds Shine in Grade 1 TVG Debutante Stakes

Grade 1 races for 2 year olds is rare. However, at Del Mar on Saturday 2023 Kentucky Oaks hopefuls will run in the TVG Debutante.

• #8 MORAWETH (3-1) has solid early pace figures in a race that looks to lack a ton of front running speed.
• #5 BALADI (5-2) projects to sit mid pack and come with one run.
• #6 MULTI PLATINUM (3-1) has been really solid in recent starts and should be ready to run a big one here.
• #7 D D S EXPRESS (4-1) looks like a likely contender who will be close enough to the pace to make things interesting.

• #3 EL TIGRE TERRIBLE (5-2) has to be respected going out for the combination of Glatt and Prat.
• #7 SQUARE DEAL (5-1) could be one to send hard if no one wants to get the lead.

• #7 GREGORY'S PRIDE (3-1) looks to be the class of the field. This one comes into the race in really good form.
• #9 LINCOLN CITY (6-1) has tactical speed and can sit just off the leaders for a stalk and pounce trip.
• #1 STRAIGHT NO CHASER (4-1) should improve off the first start and could be in with a shot in this race. He goes out for the Blacker barn and gets Maldonado in the irons.
• #10 TIME TO PARTY (8-1) makes sense on speed figures.

• #7 DUAL THREAT (12-1) is a price horse and will likely have a lot to do in the lane, but could get up with a competitive run. It’s hard to trust the top of the market here.
• #13 CHRIS FIX (4-1) has to be respected going out for the combination of Marquez and Vazquez.
• #5 FLYING FRED (7-2) has been running against decent competition in the previous efforts.
• #2 CARELESS KITTEN (7-2) has races good enough to beat this group and is well bred for this spot.

• #11 MIDNIGHT JOSTAR (4-1) has races good enough to beat this group. The outside close can be a good trip at Del Mar.
• #1 COALINGA ROAD (5-1) appears to be a major player in this race. He could get the right setup in this race.
• #5 SUBSIDIZE (8-1) will likely be in the first flight of runners and should be in with a chance late.
• #6 PRINCE ABAMA (5-1) could be in with a shot in this race. He may benefit from a hot pace up front.

• #11 HEJAZI (8-5) should improve off the first start and looks best here. He goes out for the Baffert barn and gets Smith in the irons.
• #6 FLEET FEET (6-1) could be a dangerous threat to get loose on the front end. The foundation from the debut should help here.
• #9 FORT BRAGG (2-1) debuts here and gets one of the track’s top jocks in JJ Hernandez.
• #4 SPEED BOAT BEACH (5-2) will be ridden on debut by Prat fresh off a really impressive Saratoga meet.

• #7 COMANCHE COUNTRY (3-1) has been really solid in recent starts and should be ready to run a big one here. This one has the top overall power rating in the group.
• #9 SELL THE DREAM (6-1) comes into the race in good form and shouldn’t have an issue with the mile distance.
• #10 COURT SNORT (20-1) is a price horse that has run against some good quality horses which could help her outrun the odds.
• #8 QUEENZY (8-1) has solid early pace figures in a race that looks to lack a ton of front running speed.

• #1 VEGAS MAGIC (3-1) has been really solid in recent starts and should be ready to run a big one here. This one has faced some quality animals previously.
• #5 FAST AND SHINY (8-1) should improve off the first start and should be competitive off the debut.
• #8 ICE DANCING (8-1) should be sitting in the second tier of runners and looking to make one well timed run at the leaders.

• #1 GOING TO VEGAS (5-2) could get the right setup in this race.
• #3 AVENUE DE FRANCE (6-1) shouldn't have trouble with the 1 1/8 mile distance.
• #6 BURGOO ALLEY (12-1) may benefit from a hot pace up front. The distance shouldn’t be an issue.
