Gulfstream Park Championship Meet: Wednesday Analysis (12/21)

The Championship meet returns to action at Gulfstream Park. The Hallandale Beach track is hoping for better weather this week and more turf racing.

Gulfstream Park- Race 1

Post: 12:10 PM ET; $53k Maiden Special Weight going 1 mile on turf; Entries: 8

• #4 LEAVENWORTH (7-2) should improve off the first start and gets the top selection. He projects to sit mid pack and come with one run.
• #3 SMOKIN CLOUD (15-1) is a price horse and appears to be a major player in this race. He has proven to be able to handle these conditions in previous starts.
• #1 FOR THE CHIEF (9-2) could be in with a shot in this race. The rail can be very dangerous on the Gulfstream Park turf.
• #5 SHANKAR (5-1) feels like a fringe contender in this spot. He goes out for the Joseph barn and gets Gaffalione in the irons.

• #6 WITCH OF LOVE (5-2) is the top pick. She has the top overall power rating in the group. This one runs evenly and looks to get a very fair pace scenario here.
• #2 MEET THE BEAUTY (5-1) appears to be a major player in this race. She should be sitting in the second tier of runners and looking to make one well timed run at the leaders. This one has to be respected going out for the combination of Barboza and Zayas.
• #3 LEXINATOR (10-1) is a price horse and should be a factor in this race. She has to be respected going out for the combination of Brooks and Ortiz. This one has races good enough to beat this group.
• #1 LOVIN MAKES CENTS (9-2) is in with a shot in this race. She makes sense on speed figures.

• #5 ACTION ROSE (7-5) looks best here. She has tactical speed and can sit just off the leaders for a stalk and pounce trip. This one has the pedigree to be a major player in this spot.
• #4 LIVE LIKE LAURA (8-5) should improve off the first start and should be competitive here. She goes out for the David barn and gets Lopez in the irons.
• #7 PROMINENCIA (6-1) feels like a fringe contender in this spot. She has to be respected going out for the combination of D'Angelo and Ortiz. This one is well bred for this spot.
• #3 ANABELLA PRINCESS (10-1) is a price horse and is probably best to put underneath on most tickets. She has been really solid in recent starts and should be ready to run a big one here. This one has solid early pace figures in a race that looks to lack a ton of front running speed.

• #8 POSEIDON'S SON (6-1) gets the top selection. He has been really solid in recent starts and should be ready to run a big one here. This one could get the right setup in this race.
• #6 FULTON STREET (5-1) should be competitive in this spot. He will likely be out on or near the lead and will look to hold off the charge to the wire.
• #7 TOSCANITO (10-1) is a price horse that wouldn’t be a surprise to hit the board. He makes sense on speed figures. This one comes into the race in really good form.
• #1 APPRAISAL (3-1) feels like a fringe contender in this spot. He goes out for the Brooks barn and gets Ortiz in the irons.

• #3 ROSIE'S HALO (7-5) appears to be a major player in this race. She classes up with these well enough. This one has proven to be able to handle these conditions in previous starts.
• #5 FRANKLY MY DEAR (12-1) is a price horse and could be in with a shot in this race. She seems to fit well enough here.
• #6 AWESOME ANNMARIE (8-1) is a bit of stretch but could outrun the odds here. She should be sitting in the second tier of runners and looking to make one well timed run at the leaders.

Post: 2:35 PM ET; $70k Maiden Special Weight going 1 1/16 miles on turf; Entries: 10

• #6 ARUBA (3-1) looks best here. He has races good enough to beat this group. This one has to be respected going out for the combination of Abreu and Ortiz.
• #10 CONQUIST (15-1) is a price horse and could be in with a shot in this race. He should be part of the early pace in this spot. This one goes out for the Kimmel barn and gets Ortiz in the irons.
• #1 CHUCKA MOON (10-1) shouldn't have trouble with the 1 1/16 mile distance. This one has solid early pace figures in a race that looks to lack a ton of front running speed.
• #5 TEPPER (6-1) is probably best to put underneath on most tickets. He makes sense on speed figures. This one figures to try and get the lead if the one doesn’t beat him to it.

Gulfstream Park- Race 7

Post: 3:05 PM ET; $36k Claiming going 5 furlongs on all weather track; Entries: 9

• #1 NEOPHYTE (8-1) gets the top selection. He has really consistent pace figures which should work well in a moderately paced race. This one has races good enough to beat this group.
• #2 BACK TO NORMAL (9-2) appears to be a major player in this race. He has been really solid in recent starts and should be ready to run a big one here. This one should be part of the early pace in this spot.
• #5 GIANNI LAMBO (5-2) should be competitive in this spot. He has to be respected going out for the combination of Pletcher and Ortiz.
• #7 NEVER SATISFIED (6-1) will likely have a lot to do in the lane, but could get up with a competitive run. This one has proven to be able to handle these conditions in previous starts.

• #9 NEW YORK'S FINEST (5-1) could be in with a shot in this race. He has speed figures in the past performances that fit here. This one will be looking for a touch of speed up front to run into.
