Gulfstream Park Friday: Tapeta Shows Value After Florida Rains

The Friday card from Gulfstream Park looks to get back on the grass. The tapeta surface has proven valuable keeping fields largely in tact despite wet conditions.

Gulfstream Park- Race 1

Post: 12:10 PM ET; $36k Claiming going 1 1/16 miles on turf; Entries: 9

• #4 IT'S A GAMBLE (5-2) gets the top selection. He makes sense on speed figures. This one shouldn't have trouble with the 1 1/16 mile distance.
• #6 SONIC SPEED (8-1) appears to be a major player in this race. He has proven to be able to handle these conditions in previous starts.
• #7 OVER THE CHANNEL (9-2) has the top overall power rating in the group.
• #8 KARTANO (10-1) is a price horse and appears to be a major player in this race. He goes out for the Joseph barn and gets Zayas in the irons. This one makes sense on speed figures.

• #4 BEDTIME STORY (3-1) should improve off the first start and is the top pick. She has really consistent pace figures which should work well in a moderately paced race. This one has to be respected going out for the combination of D'Angelo and Gonzalez.
• #6 LOVE IS AWESOME (4-1) projects to sit mid pack and come with one run. This one has proven to be able to handle these conditions in previous starts.
• #7 CHILD MEMORIES (9-2) feels like a fringe contender in this spot. She will likely be in the first flight of runners and should be in with a chance late.
• #3 CONCEPTUS (7-2) isn't without hope. She looks to be the class of the field. This one has been really solid in recent starts and should be ready to run a big one here.

• #2 EMPEROR'S APPEAL (5-2) should improve off the first start and looks best here. He shouldn't have trouble with the 1 mile distance. This one goes out for the Lynch barn and gets Saez in the irons.
• #1 SILVER N BLACK (5-1) runs evenly and looks to get a very fair pace scenario here. This one is well bred for this spot.
• #4 BIG DATA (6-1) should improve off the debut effort and is probably best to put underneath on most tickets. He makes sense on speed figures. This one has the pedigree to be a major player in this spot.
• #5 EVENTFUL (5-1) debuts here and seems to be running for the minor placings in this contest but should be in the mix.

• #1 FREDO (8-1) isn't without hope. He makes sense on speed figures. This one has proven to be able to handle these conditions in previous starts.
• #7 PAPA JOJO (3-1) should be sitting in the second tier of runners and looking to make one well timed run at the leaders.

• #2 RED HURRICANE (5-2) should be competitive in this spot. He has the top overall power rating in the group. This one runs evenly and looks to get a very fair pace scenario here.
• #1 BLUTO'S CANDY (5-1) makes sense on speed figures.
• #7 NO MAN LEFT BEHIND (6-1) feels like a fringe contender in this spot. He fits on speed figures. This one comes into the race in really good form.

• #10 WAR STRATEGY (4-1) could be in with a shot in this race. This one could get the right setup in this race.
• #2 ASSIDUOUSLY (8-1) is probably best to put underneath on most tickets. He will likely have a lot to do in the lane, but could get up with a competitive run.

• #1 TOO MUCH ACTION (15-1) is a price horse and appears to be a major player in this race. He has been really solid in recent starts and should be ready to run a big one here. This one makes sense on speed figures.
• #5 CARRONADE (12-1) is a price horse and feels like a fringe contender in this spot. He should be part of the early pace which is good on the south Florida dirt. This one has to be respected going out for the combination of Kintz and Ortiz.
