Gulfstream Park Friday: Selections, Analysis (12/23)

Gulfstream Park is closing in on the Christmas Break. December 25 is a dark day for all American horse tracks. Here’s a look at the penultimate card ahead of the brief hiatus.

Gulfstream Park- Race 1

Post: 12:10 PM ET; $35k Maiden Claiming going 1 mile on turf; Entries: 10

• #1 COMMANDER FLYNN (3-1) gets the top selection. He should be sitting in the second tier of runners and looking to make one well timed run at the leaders. This one has races good enough to beat this group.
• #3 HOLLYWOOD CLOSEUP (7-2) could be in with a shot in this race. He shouldn't have trouble with the 1 mile distance. This one has been really solid in recent starts and should be ready to run a big one here.
• #7 SPY TOWN (15-1) is a price horse and feels like a fringe contender in this spot. He goes out for the Aboughaida barn and gets Perez in the irons.
• #10 MY EAGLE SOARS (6-1) is probably best to put underneath on most tickets. He looks to be the class of the field.

Gulfstream Park- Race 2

Post: 12:38 PM ET; $24k Claiming going 1 mile 70 yards on all weather track; Entries: 8

• #1 DUBSTEP (5-1) is the top pick. She has races good enough to beat this group. This one has proven to be able to handle these conditions in previous starts.
• #3 HARDSPUN WOMAN (7-2) appears to be a major player in this race. She will likely have a lot to do in the lane, but could get up with a competitive run. This one has races good enough to win here.
• #6 HOLY BERRIES (12-1) is a price horse and has been a good bet to hit the board on the tapeta surface.
• #2 SILKY WARRIOR (8-1) should be competitive in this spot. She seems to fit well enough here. This one makes sense on speed figures.

Gulfstream Park- Race 3

Post: 1:06 PM ET; $53k Maiden Special Weight going 6 1/2 furlongs on dirt; Entries: 11

• #10 POWER HUMOR (5-1) should improve off the first start and looks best here. He has the pedigree to be a major player in this spot. This one could be a dangerous threat to get loose on the front end.
• #1 ADIOS PAPA CHICO (8-1) appears to be a major player in this race. He seems to fit well enough here. This one has breeding to be a factor.
• #8 VANISHING INTEREST (4-1) could be in with a shot in this race. He makes sense on speed figures. This one has proven to be able to handle these conditions in previous starts.
• #2 DON'T ANSWER (12-1) is a price horse and feels like a fringe contender in this spot. He has solid early pace figures in a race that looks to lack a ton of front running speed.

Gulfstream Park- Race 4

Post: 1:36 PM ET; $35k Starter Optional Claiming going 5 furlongs on all weather track; Entries: 7

• #2 SIX FEET APART (9-2) gets the top selection. She should be part of the early pace in this spot.
• #5 LIONESSOFBRITTANY (7-2) is a very formidable opponent. She looks to be the class of the field.
• #6 NIKEE KAN (3-1) appears to be a major player in this race. She has tactical speed and can sit just off the leaders for a stalk and pounce trip. This one has races good enough to beat this group.
• #1 DANCING DOLL (9-2) appears to be a major player in this race. She could get the right setup in this race.

Post: 2:06 PM ET; $42k Starter Optional Claiming going 1 1/16 miles on turf; Entries: 16

• #10 AMAZIN QUEEN (15-1) is a price horse and is the top pick. She shouldn't have trouble with the 1 1/16 mile distance. This one has been really solid in recent starts and should be ready to run a big one here.
• #15 LAY THE GROUNDWORK (5-1) appears to be a major player in this race. She will likely have a lot to do in the lane, but could get up with a competitive run.
• #6 FISH MOONEY (7-2) should be competitive in this spot. She has races good enough to beat this group. This one has the top overall power rating in the group.
• #11 UNION DOLLY (5-1) makes sense on speed figures. This one looks to be the class of the field.

Selections: 10- 15- 6 – 11

Gulfstream Park- Race 6

Post: 2:36 PM ET; $32k Starter Optional Claiming going 1 1/16 miles on all weather track; Entries: 10

• #8 JAZZY T (4-1) looks best here. She looks to be the class of the field. This one projects to sit mid pack and come with one run.
• #10 JOURNEYTOTHEMOON (5-2) appears to be a major player in this race. She has proven to be able to handle these conditions in previous starts. This one seems to fit well enough here.
• #2 FLYING BLACK (4-1) has been really solid in recent starts and should be ready to run a big one here.
• #5 SWEET PEARL (8-1) wouldn’t be a surprise to find herself in the number. She has been running well of late and could be ready to run a good one.

Gulfstream Park- Race 7

Post: 3:05 PM ET; $71k Allowance Optional Claiming going 1 mile on dirt; Entries: 12

• #7 EXPRESSMAN (9-5) gets the top selection. He has the top overall power rating in the group. This one comes into the race in really good form.
• #12 KISSALOT (12-1) is a price horse and appears to be a major player in this race. He shouldn't have trouble with the 1 mile distance. This one comes into the race in really good form.
• #1 THE SKIPPER TOO (8-1) isn't without hope. He has races good enough to beat this group. This one seems to fit well enough here.
• #2 DESERT RULER (9-2) is probably best to put underneath on most tickets. He has tactical speed and can sit just off the leaders for a stalk and pounce trip.

Selections: 7 – 12- 1 – 2

Gulfstream Park- Race 8

Post: 3:35 PM ET; $54k Allowance Optional Claiming going 5 furlongs on turf; Entries: 11

• #3 TIGER BLOOD (10-1) is a price horse and is the top pick. He may benefit from a hot pace up front. The post may prove a bit tricky if he has to concede position early.
• #11 PUTIN ONLINE (6-1) should be competitive in this spot. He has races good enough to beat this group. This one should be sitting in the second tier of runners and looking to make one well timed run at the leaders.
• #6 BIG DADDY DAVE (6-1) could be in with a shot in this race. He has proven to be able to handle these conditions in previous starts. This one looks to be the class of the field.
• #2 HEALS THE SOUL (5-1) has the top overall power rating in the group.

• #8 AMORE MOON (6-1) appears to be a major player in this race. She has races good enough to beat this group. This one is well bred for this spot.
• #6 RIA FORMOSA (5-1) should be competitive in this spot. She comes into the race in really good form.
• #4 DISCO QUEEN (15-1) will likely be in the first flight of runners and should be in with a chance late.
