Gulfstream Park Saturday: Year’s Final Stakes Races Featured

The final card from Gulfstream Park ahead of the holiday break features the Abundantia and the Janus. Carotari is the tepid morning line favorite in the latter.

Gulfstream Takes Center Stage

January is a massive time for the Hallandale Beach track which sees a massive influx of top jockeys and trainers. Many of these come from the NYRA circuit as they look to escape the harsh winter conditions in New York.

For trainers with turf runners who are still in good form, it also means that the horse can continue to race without interruption while other circuits have their grass courses closed for the season.

Only Game In Town

Although Gulfstream is frequently a good betting product because of the robust pools, Saturday’s card provides a unique opportunity for horseplayers.

On Saturday Gulfstream is one of only 2 tracks running. Compare that to last Saturday (12/17) where they were competing with 16 other North American racing cards. While overall horse racing handle may be down on Saturday, a far greater portion of the money will be poured into Gulfstream.

The end result for players is more money in the pools and bigger paydays when you’re right.

• #11 DUDE N COLORADO (4-1) should improve off the first start and gets the top selection.
• #4 SUMMONYOURCOURAGE (9-2) appears to be a major player in this race. He could be a dangerous threat to get loose on the front end.
• #12 FIGHTERTOWN (9-2) feels like a fringe contender in this spot. He comes into the race in really good form.
• #9 GREAT SKILL (12-1) is a price horse and seems a bit over matched here but could find the number with a good effort.

• #7 ZYDECEAUX (6-5) is the top pick. He could be a dangerous threat to get loose on the front end. This one has the top overall power rating in the group.
• #4 GOLDEN TALENT (8-1) could be in with a shot in this race. He should be part of the early pace in this spot.
• #5 O'CONNER SUNSET (10-1) has to be respected going out for the combination of Gutierrez and Ortiz.
• #3 EL DE LEO (10-1) is a price horse and seems to fit well enough here.

• #3 MATEO (2-1) looks best here. He has speed figures that would win this race quite convincingly.
• #1 HEART BOY (5-2) appears to be a major player in this race. He is well bred for this spot.
• #6 ROYAL FOX HILLS (3-1) shouldn't have trouble with the 1 1/16 mile distance. This one has been really solid in recent starts and should be ready to run a big one here.
• #4 MAJOR DEAL (12-1) looks to be the class of the field. This one should be sitting in the second tier of runners and looking to make one well timed run at the leaders.

• #6 MISS J MCKAY (2-1) gets the top selection and is one of those runners seeking refuge from the New York winter. She has been really solid in recent starts and should be ready to run a big one here.
• #3 MAMBA WAMBA (12-1) is a price horse has proven to be able to handle these conditions in previous starts. This one shouldn't have trouble with the 5 furlong distance.
• #4 MISS AURAMET (5-1) isn't without hope. She seems to fit well enough here. This one goes out for the Plesa barn and gets Lopez in the irons.
• #8 SPUN GLASS (8-1) should be sitting in the second tier of runners and looking to make one well timed run at the leaders.

• #3 THREE GIRLS (5-2) is the top pick. She has been really solid in recent starts and should be ready to run a big one here.
• #1 SHEZ SPEIGHTFUL (12-1) has run well over the synthetic surface in the past. This one has to be respected going out for the combination of D'Angelo and Ortiz.
• #2 LONGLIVE THE QUEEN (4-1) debuts here and has to be respected going out for the combination of Clement and Gaffalione. This one is well bred for this spot.
• #4 EILAT (7-2) goes out for the Zerpa barn and gets Zayas in the irons on the debut effort. The morning line suggests the backside is buzzing about this runner.

• #3 FORWARDLY (6-1) looks best here. He has been really solid in recent starts and should be ready to run a big one here. This one has races good enough to beat this group.
• #12 WICKED GENIUS (4-1) appears to be a major player in this race. He looks to be the class of the field.
• #1 SARATOGA FLASH (10-1) is a price horse and should be competitive in this spot. He could get the right setup in this race.
• #6 HASHTAG NO WONDER (8-1) goes out for the David barn and gets Ortiz in the irons.

• #2 CAJUN FANTASY (8-1) looked to get a lot out of the first start and could take a big step forward at second asking.
• #5 SASSY BUT PRECIOUS (5-1) should be competitive in this spot. She is well bred for this spot.
• #9 BROWN EYED BEAUTY (10-1) is a price horse and isn't without hope. She goes out for the Dakin barn and gets Villalobos in the irons.

• #4 NOTHING BETTER (7-2) is the top pick. He has races good enough to beat this group. This one could get the right setup in this race.
• #10 CAROTARI (3-1) could get the right setup in this race and will be running to cap a really solid year on the grass.
• #5 DUBAI KEY (5-1) has been really solid in recent starts and should be ready to run a big one here. This one should be part of the early pace in this spot.
• #15 CHUCK WILLIS (4-1) goes out for the Casse barn and gets Gaffalione in the irons.
