Gulfstream Park Thursday: Championship Meet Analaysis

The Thursday card from Gulfstream Park features races on all three running surfaces. The turf course was being rested until the start of the championship meet.

Gulfstream Park- Race 1

Post: 12:10 PM ET; $50k Maiden Optional Claiming going 5 furlongs on turf; Entries: 9

• #9 ISLAND SWAGGER (8-1) gets the top selection. He has the pedigree to be a major player in this spot.
• #2 SOUPER QUEST (3-1) debuts here for the Casse barn and gets Ortiz in the irons.
• #3 POKER NITE AT TOMS (9-2) will hit the track for the first time. He goes out for the Spatz barn and gets Vasquez in the irons.
• #8 CERTAIN (15-1) is a price horse and seems to be running for the minor placings in this contest. He could be a dangerous threat to get loose on the front end.

Post: 12:38 PM ET; $28k Claiming going 1 mile on dirt; Entries: 7

• #5 BRASSTOWN (4-1) is the top pick. He makes sense on speed figures.
• #4 UNTITLED (3-1) appears to be a major player in this race. He seems to fit well enough here. This one has really consistent pace figures which should work well in a moderately paced race.
• #1 FROSTED ARMOUR (7-5) could be in with a shot in this race. He is a good bet to hit the board in this type of race.
• #3 BRACCIO DI FERRO (20-1) is a price horse and is probably best to put underneath on most tickets. He seems to class up well with these given the price.

Post: 1:06 PM ET; $50k Maiden Optional Claiming going 5 furlongs on all weather track; Entries: 7

• #4 ROYAL QUALITY (4-1) looks best here. He shouldn't have trouble with the 5 furlong distance. This one should be sitting in the second tier of runners and looking to make one well timed run at the leaders.
• #6 AWESOME CRUSADER (3-1) should be competitive in this spot. This one has races good enough to beat this group.
• #5 GRANDE SOIREE (7-2) should improve off the first start and has to be respected going out for the combination of Gargan and Saez. This one is well bred for this spot.
• #1 INSPIRED MISCHIEF (5-1) could be in with a shot in this race. He projects to sit mid pack and come with one run.

Gulfstream Park- Race 4

Post: 1:36 PM ET; $35k Starter Optional Claiming going 5 furlongs on all weather track; Entries: 8

• #2 UNCLE B (7-2) gets the top selection. He could get the right setup in this race and has plenty of talent on paper.
• #6 WORA (5-2) appears to be a major player in this race. He should be sitting in the second tier of runners and looking to make one well timed run at the leaders.
• #3 SMOKY BLUES (15-1) is a price horse goes out for the Weaver barn and gets Lopez in the irons. This one will likely be in the first flight of runners and should be in with a chance late.
• #4 FEAST (5-1) is probably best to put underneath on most tickets. He seems to fit well enough here. This one comes into the race in really good form.

• #4 HOLLYWOODHELLRAISR (8-1) is the top pick. He has races good enough to beat this group.
• #5 C MY MEISTER (6-1) should be competitive in this spot. He comes into the race in really good form.
• #10 WORLDS ON HIGH (5-1) makes sense on speed figures. This one runs evenly and looks to get a very fair pace scenario here.
• #1 MY SEA COTTAGE (7-2) has speed figures that fit with this group. This one has really consistent pace figures which should work well in a moderately paced race. The concern is the short price in a race that looks very competitive.

• #5 DEM A WONDER (2-1) looks best here. She has races good enough to beat this group. This one is a good bet to hit the board in this type of race.
• #4 MY DESTINY (5-2) could be in with a shot in this race. She has really consistent pace figures which should work well in a moderately paced race. This one looks to be the class of the field.
• #3 NINJA ABARRIO (6-1) goes out for the Sweezey barn and gets Zayas in the irons. This one has proven to be able to handle these conditions in previous starts.
• #6 AWESOME ANNMARIE (10-1) is a price horse and isn't without hope. She projects to sit mid pack and come with one run. This one has really consistent pace figures which should work well in a moderately paced race.

Post: 3:05 PM ET; $71k Allowance Optional Claiming going 5 furlongs on all weather track; Entries: 7

• #4 JELLYBEAN (6-1) gets the top selection. She goes out for the David barn and gets Lopez in the irons.
• #2 TOQUETHER (4-1) should improve off the first start and appears to be a major player in this race. She goes out for the Clement barn and gets Vasquez in the irons. This one makes sense on speed figures.
• #7 ANOTHERDAYGONEBY (7-2) appears to be a factor in this race. She has proven to be able to handle these conditions in previous starts.
• #3 LE BOIANA (9-2) looks to be the class of the field. This one has tactical speed and can sit just off the leaders for a stalk and pounce trip.

Gulfstream Park- Race 8

Post: 3:35 PM ET; $72k Allowance Optional Claiming going 1 1/16 miles on dirt; Entries: 8

• #1 MISH (9-5) is the top pick. He is very talented and could get the right setup in this race.
• #4 CLAPTON (9-2) should be competitive in this spot. He shouldn't have trouble with the 1 1/16 mile distance. This one makes sense on speed figures.
• #5 SUPER CORINTO (2-1) has the top overall power rating in the group. This one should be sitting in the second tier of runners and looking to make one well timed run at the leaders.
• #8 JESUS' TEAM (6-1) may benefit from a hot pace up front. This one seems to fit well enough here.

Gulfstream Park- Race 9

Post: 4:05 PM ET; $35k Maiden Claiming going 1 1/16 miles on turf; Entries: 9

• #6 INSCRUTABLE (5-2) looks best here. She has run against seemingly better competition, but it is always hard to tell for sure in the maiden claiming ranks.
• #8 MARVELOUS LADY (10-1) is a price horse and should be competitive in this spot. She has races good enough to beat this group.
• #9 PAWKY (9-2) feels like a fringe contender in this spot. She has to be respected going out for the combination of Joseph and Zayas.
• #5 WOLF RAYET (6-1) should improve off the first start and isn't without hope. The debut was productive enough to give this one a shot if she moves forward. This one will likely have a lot to do in the lane, but could get up with a competitive run.
