Indiana Grand Wednesday: Stakes Preview and Selections

Wednesday is a great day of racing for the middle of the week. Kentucky Downs, Indiana Grand, and Canterbury Park all have multiple stakes races.

Sunny Days Ahead at Indiana Grand

Players should be excited about the prospects at Indiana Grand. Players coming fresh off a Saratoga meet that was riddled with off tracks and cancelled turf races will be happy to know that Indiana Grand has not experienced rain recently. The forecast for the week looks good as well with little to no chance of rain. It looks like all races should be on fast and firm going throughout the week.

Indiana Grand Wednesday Analysis

Race 1

Post: 2:25 PM ET; Purse: $17,500 Claiming, 5 1/2 Furlongs on Dirt; Entries: 6

#1 TIZWAY FOREVER is at odds of 5-1 and has done little wrong of late. Could surprise at a price. #3 DOWN AND DIRTY has the top speed figures in the group and has to be respected. #5 CORSIDAT is a bit of a distance specialist and could have an edge on this field. Based on the way the track has been playing #4 ZIGGY'S STORM has to be considered a threat to get the proper race flow.

Race 2

Post: 2:54 PM ET; Purse: $12,000 Claiming, 6 Furlongs on Dirt; Entries: 6

#1 CAKE INA CAN seems like a steal at 5-1. This one looks good in a lot of key handicapping factors that should provide multiple ways to win. Indiana Grand has been a tiring track of late and #6 BIRDIE BLUE has the stamina that could carry her as other’s begin to tire. #3 FEARLESS ANNA has posted the best recent speed figures. #4 C J'S EMPIRE is good form and has been keeping the best company of the group.

Race 3

Post: 3:24 PM ET; Purse: $38,000 Allowance, 5 1/2 Furlongs on Dirt; Entries: 8

#8 COMPASS POINT has the top speed figures and power rating in the group. #4 AZZARO STEEL goes out for connections that have been doing well this meet. #3 BLUEMOON JUSTICE is cycling up and may be sitting on a big performance. #1 HICKORY HIGH has done little wrong in recent starts and may be worth a play.

Race 4

Post: 3:55 PM ET; Purse: $34,000 Maiden Special Weight, 5 1/2 Furlongs on Dirt; Entries: 8

#8 MYSTIQUE SABOTEUR has dangerous early pace that could run the others off their feet. #4 SASSY SAGEY is in good form with good human connections. #6 DAY SPA and #1 PURITY both could be sitting on a good performance based recent performance.

Race 5

Post: 4:26 PM ET; Purse: $34,000 Maiden Special Weight, 1 1/16 Miles on Turf; Entries: 9

#6 KID SHELLEEN is the deserving favorite at 7-5 and seems to have this group over a barrel. Maybe if the race sets up perfectly #9 TROPICAL TORNADO can find a way to the winner’s circle. #3 SIMON PETER is competitive on speed figures but lacks the comprehensive advantage had by the favorite. #7 JOHN E'S COWBOY likes the distance and should be used underneath.

Race 6

Post: 4:57 PM ET; Purse: $38,500 Maiden Special Weight, 5 1/2 Furlongs on Dirt; Entries: 11

#11 Z'S LUCKY GIRL enters with experience at a short price and is as likely as any. #3 LITTLE MAEMI is well bred for a big performance here. #7 MORE APPROVAL could be ready to take the next step and break the maiden. #5 PERFECT SMOKEY EYE has the fastest numbers in the group thus far and may just get the best flow of the race.

Race 7

Post: 5:28 PM ET; Purse: $40,000 Allowance, 1 Mile on Turf; Entries: 11

I would be surprised if #7 NOTHINGBUTFLOWERS goes off around the morning line of 8-1. Indiana Grand can often see big swings between the morning line and the post time odds. This one has an edge in speed figures race flow and power ratings. #3 KANFU, #5 BREWSKY, and #2 IJUSTWANTAHAVEFUN all rate out well in a number of critical handicapping factors here and could be ready to run their best races.

Race 8

Post: 6:00 PM ET; Purse: $100,000 Back Home Again S., 6 Furlongs on Dirt; Entries: 11

Race 8 marks the first stakes race at Indiana Grand. My top pick is at a juicy 15-1 on the morning line. #3 MI ESTRELLA may just be able to get the best setup and spring the major upset. #11 EVERYTHING'S ROSY and #5 COMPRESSED ENERGY have no red flags and seem to be heading into the race with a fair chance at victory. #6 FLIRTY DANCER will also be tough in this spot based on class and stamina numbers.

Race 9

Post: 6:34 PM ET; Purse: $150,000 Indiana Grand S., 1 Mile on Turf; Entries: 13

The 9th race is one of the co-features at Indiana Grand. #12 CELESTIAL SPIN is at odds of 30-1 on the morning line, but I don’t see that holding. Anything over 10-1 makes this one a definite player. #8 BURNING AMBITION goes out for strong connections. #4 PRINCESS THEOREM has a good overall rating in this spot and could be a factor. #2 COVENANT LADY is in great form and could easily have a path to victory in this spot.

Race 10

Post: 7:06 PM ET; Purse: $150,000 Bovada S., 1 Mile on Turf; Entries: 7

The final turf race of the day is the other co-feature on the card. #5 NICKY TWO SHOES is at odds of 5-1 and has speed, class, and stamina on side. #6 DYN O MITE is in great recent form and should get the right run of the race. #7 ROYAL PRINCE shouldn’t be left off of tickets based on connections. #1 CLARESTOWN overall power ratings make this one a player to at least get into the number.

Race 11

Post: 7:36 PM ET; Purse: $100,000 Circle City S., 6 Furlongs on Dirt; Entries: 12

The final stakes race from Indiana Grand is the Circle City. #3 CLASSIC MAX is at odds of 5-2 and has class numbers and form that tower here. Given that this one should get the run of the race, it looks daunting for the rest. If not the #3, #7 ORO AZTECA is well rated and has great early pace numbers that could have this one in the driver’s seat heading for home. #1 MOWINS figures on speed figures, but doesn’t have the array of positives that the top 2 have. #12 HIGHCOTTON JUSTICE is one who has been consistent and could run a good one here.
