We The People is favored in the West Virginia Derby on Saturday at Mountaineer. A wide open race suggests he may be a bad bet in this spot.
Mountaineer- Race 1

- #3 IN TO THE NIGHT (4-1) gets the top selection. She has proven to be able to handle these conditions in previous starts.
- #1 KIMALLOSA'S HALO (7-2) appears to be a major player in this race. She will likely be in the first flight of runners and should be in with a chance late.
- #5 TEAM HOT LINE (9-2) should be competitive in this spot. She seems to fit well enough here. This one has races good enough to beat this group.
- #4 DRAMADORA (8-1) is worth a look as she has proven to be able to handle these conditions in previous starts.
Selections: 3 – 1 – 5 – 4

- #10 IN LOVE (5-2) is the top pick. He has races good enough to beat this group. This one was considered a major player in the Breeders’ Cup last year.
- #1 MIDNIGHT TEA TIME (9-2) feels like a fringe contender in this spot. He makes sense on speed figures. This one has been really solid in recent starts and should be ready to run a big one here.
- #6 PRICE TALK (4-1) is probably best to put underneath on most tickets. He has to be respected going out for the combination of Cox and Lopez.
- #3 TEMPER TANTRUM (8-1) seems to be running for the minor placings in this contest. He goes out for the Hernandez barn and gets Batista in the irons.
Selections: 10- 1 – 6 – 3
Mountaineer- Race 3
Post: 2:55 PM ET; $75k West Virginia Secretary of State S. going 6 furlongs on dirt; Entries: 10
- #9 THUNDERING CREED (4-1) shouldn't have trouble with the 6 furlong distance. She projects to sit mid pack and come with one run.
- #1 WE MISS SUSIE (8-1) should be competitive in this spot. She may benefit from the fields she run against recently.
- #4 PULPIT'S PURRFECT (12-1) is a price horse and could be in with a shot in this race going out for the combination of Galloway and Batista.
- #7 COMMAND STRIKE (7-2) feels like a fringe contender in this spot. This one has the top overall power rating in the group.
Selections: 9 – 1 – 4 – 7
Mountaineer- Race 4
Post: 3:25 PM ET; $75k West Virginia Legislature Chairman's Cup S. going 4 1/2 furlongs on dirt; Entries: 8
- #8 HOLLIS (1-1) gets the top selection. He looks to be the class of the field.
- #2 STORM BOARDER (3-1) could be in with a shot in this race. He has proven to be able to handle these conditions in previous starts.
- #5 WILD BEHAVIOR (4-1) isn't without hope. He should be part of the early pace in this spot.
- #1 FULLY CONNECTED (6-1) seems to be running for the minor placings in this contest. He has run these super sprints successfully before.
Selections: 8 – 2 – 5 – 1

- #5 VEZPA (10-1) is a price horse and should be competitive in this spot. She seems to fit well enough here.
- #10 I'M FINE (15-1) is a candidate to outrun the odds, but that may just be good enough to hit the board.
Selections: 8 – 4 – 5 – 10
Mountaineer- Race 6
Post: 4:25 PM ET; $75k Senator Robert C. Byrd Memorial S. going 6 furlongs on dirt; Entries: 7
- #7 SPECIAL RESERVE (6-5) looks best here. He looks to be the class of the field. This one has the top overall power rating in the group.
- #1 MACRON (7-5) runs evenly and looks to get a very fair pace scenario here.
- #5 WILLISTON WAY (5-1) is probably best to put underneath on most tickets. He is a good bet to hit the board in this type of race.
- #3 NOMO RON (20-1) is a price horse and should be in with a chance to hit the board late.
Selections: 7 – 1 – 5 – 3
Mountaineer- Race 7
Post: 4:55 PM ET; $200k West Virginia Governor's S. going 1 1/16 miles on dirt; Entries: 10
- #9 PROMISE KEEPER (5-1) gets the top selection. He has races good enough to beat this group. This one shouldn't have trouble with the 1 1/16 mile distance.
- #4 FULSOME (3-1) appears to be a major player in this race. He has the top overall power rating in the group. This one may benefit from a hot pace up front.
- #10 ENDORSED (10-1) has been really solid in recent starts and should be ready to run a big one here. This one has tactical speed and can sit just off the leaders for a stalk and pounce trip.
- #5 SILVER PROSPECTOR (4-1) should be competitive in this spot. He seems to fit well enough here on class.
Selections: 9 – 4 – 10- 5
Mountaineer- Race 8

- #3 HOME BREW (3-1) feels like one that should relish the distance.
- #2 SIMPLIFICATION (5-2) appears to be a major player in this race. He has tactical speed and can sit just off the leaders for a stalk and pounce trip. The price is a bit short, but this one is a runner.
- #6 WE THE PEOPLE (2-1) appears to be a major player in this race, but the concern is that the Belmont Stakes run supports the idea that the Peter Pan was a weak race. There he beat Golden Glider who was 6th in the Curlin last weekend.
Selections: 7 – 3 – 2 – 6
Mountaineer- Race 9
Post: 6:00 PM ET; $21k Allowance going 7 furlongs on turf; Entries: 12
- #5 DESERT COWBOY (6-1) looks best here. He projects to sit mid pack and come with one run. This one makes sense on speed figures.
- #4 THE BEST DISTANCE (5-1) comes into the race in really good form.
- #8 NEW YEAR SURPRISE (7-2) has proven to be able to handle these conditions in previous starts.
- #2 PRINCE AMADEUS (5-1) has solid early pace figures in a race that looks to lack a ton of front running speed.
Selections: 5 – 4 – 8 – 2
