After seeing their impressive runs come up a win short of the final, Germany and Poland have to shake off their disappointment for their matchup in the Eurobasket 2022 third-place game.
Germany reached the semis with an upset of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Greece, and they were favored for Friday’s semifinal showdown with Spain.
The hosts used an 11-0 run to take a ten-point lead late in the third quarter and led 77-70 with 7:44 left in the final period. But Spain took control with a 13-0 run and went on to close out a 96-91 win, denying Germany their first Eurobasket final appearance since 2005.
After shocking Slovenia to reach the semis for the first time since 1971, Poland took on France eyeing only their second Eurobasket final ever, 59 years after their previous one.
The odds were heavily against Poland, but France took the game away from them early, never gave them a chance to mount a comeback, and produced a dominant performance on both ends in a 95-54 rout.
While Friday was a disappointing day, both teams have had an impressive tournament and are eyeing a rare Eurobasket medal. So, we should be in for an entertaining, competitive game in Berlin ahead of the final between Spain and France.

Germany vs. Poland Prediction and Betting Picks
Germany vs. Poland Prediction: Germany to win
Germany vs. Poland Picks: Germany/Poland over 169.5 (Best Value: -115 at Bovada Sportsbook) & Dennis Schroder over 20.5 points (Best Value: -106 at BetOnline)
Missing out on a chance to win a title is always going to hurt, but I still expect both teams to want to put on a show and end Eurobasket on a high.
To date, Germany’s only Eurobasket medals came in 1993, when they won the title as hots, and 2005, when their Dirk Nowitzki-led team lost to Greece in the final in Belgrade.
As for Poland, the most recent of their four Eurobasket medals (three bronze, one silver) came in 1967, when they beat Bulgaria for bronze in Helsinki, Finland.
So, there is certainly a lot to play for on both sides still, and that should make for a matchup that might be higher in entertainment value than the final.
Germany is averaging 93.3 points per game in the tournament and have hit the 90-point mark five times in eight games, including three 100-point performances.
Poland will have to score to keep up, and while they were blown away by France, they hit the 90-point mark in their first two knockout games against Ukraine and Slovenia. So, they can light it up as well.
In my view, the total should be a few points higher, so I love the over at this number. And as much as I love that over, I love the over on Dennis Schroder’s points total even more.
Schroder has been a big part of Germany’s Eurobasket run, averaging 21.6 points per game and 7.3 assists per game, and he has been at his best in the knockouts.
Game-by-Game Numbers for Dennis Schroder at Eurobasket 2022
- France (Group B): 11 points (4-14 FG, 0-6 3PT, 3-3 FT), five assists
- Bosnia-Herzegovina (Group B): 18 points (6-17 FG, 1-3 3PT, 5-5 FT), nine assists
- Lithuania (Group B): 25 points (10-27 FG, 2-10 3PT, 3-4 FT), five rebounds, eight assists
- Slovenia (Group B): 19 points (7-17 FG, 3-10 3PT, 2-3 FT), five assists
- Hungary (Group B): DNP
- Montenegro (round of 16): 22 points (7-16 FG, 2-7 3PT, 6-7 FT), four rebounds, eight assists
- Greece (QF): 26 points (8-15 FG, 3-6 3PT, 7-7 FT), three rebounds, eight assists
- Spain (SF): 30 points (11-17 FG, 3-7 3PT, 5-5 FT), eight assists
Look for Schroder, who just inked a one-year deal to return to the Los Angeles Lakers, to stand out again and lead Germany to the bronze.
