After breezing past Japan in their Olympic women’s basketball tournament opener, Team USA will look to make it two wins from two Group C games tonight as they take on Belgium (3:00 pm ET, USA Network).
On Monday, the USA’s quest for an eighth straight Olympic women’s basketball gold medal began with a 102-76 win over Japan. A’ja Wilson (24 points, 13 rebounds, four assists) and Breanna Stewart (22 points, eight rebounds, three assists) led the way for the USA, who never trailed and led by double digits for the final 21 minutes.
In their second Group C game, the gold medal favorites will face off with Belgium, who went into the Olympics with medal hopes but is on shaky ground after opening with an upset loss to the Sabally sisters and Germany.
These two teams played a tight game in the Olympic qualifying tournament in February, with the USA escaping with a two-point victory. Can the European champions challenge the world’s best team again?

Belgium vs USA Betting Analysis
In February, the USA and Belgium met in an Olympic qualification matchup in Antwerp, and a major upset nearly occurred.
The Americans scored the game’s first four points, but Belgium responded with a 10-0 run, and the U.S. spent the rest of the game in catch-up mode. At one point, they faced a 13-point deficit in the third quarter.
But they would deny Belgium a momentous result, rallying in the fourth quarter and ultimately winning on a last-second tip-in by Breanna Stewart.
A tall task is ahead for Belgium to put in a similar challenge today. In that contest, they shot 50% from the field and made 12 of 29 threes (41.4%), while the U.S. shot 21.1% (4 of 19) from three and 41.7% overall from the field. A repeat of all of that is unlikely today.
Also, while Stewart and many other members of the Olympic team were a part of the qualifying tournament squad, Wilson, Brittney Griner (11 points, nine rebounds vs Japan), and Chelsea Gray (13 assists vs Japan) were not available.
Last but certainly not least, Belgium’s performance against Germany left a lot to be desired. In the 83-69 loss, they were only 5 of 18 (27.8%) from three, lost the battle on the boards by 16, and turned the ball over 16 times. Also, they allowed Germany to shoot 50% from three and 52.8% from the field overall.

Belgium vs USA Prediction & Picks
Germany, who improved to 2-0 in Group C with a 75-64 win over Japan today, is outperforming expectations with a healthy Satou Sabally in the lineup.
But Belgium was not very good on Monday, and I don’t see them improving to the point that they seriously challenge the USA today.
That said, two of my picks for this matchup are for Belgium’s Emma Meesseman and Julie Vanloo.
Meesseman, a two-time WNBA All-Star and the MVP of the 2019 WNBA Finals with the Washington Mystics, is a familiar name for WNBA followers. So is Vanloo, who is averaging 8.0 PPG and 5.1 APG for the Mystics in her first season in the WNBA.
Meesseman, who hasn’t played in the WNBA since 2022, had 25 points and five assists against Germany. Vanloo also had a productive performance, scoring 18 points and dishing out six assists.
I expect Meesseman and Vanloo to lead the way for Belgium again, but even their best won’t be nearly enough to keep the USA from another comfortable victory.
Belgium vs USA Prediction: USA to win
Belgium vs USA Picks: 1) Emma Meesseman (Belgium) over 18.5 points (-105 at Bovada), 2) Julie Vanloo over 5.5 assists (-125 at Bovada), 3) A’ja Wilson (USA) over 2.5 assists (-130 at Bovada)
