Week 6 of the 2023 CFL season is here, bringing another exciting slate of games to football enthusiasts. The standings have begun to take shape as teams find their identities, making it interesting to see how the results of the CFL Week 6 matchups will shake things up.
The Week 6 action kicks off on Thursday as the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (1-3) pay a visit to the winless Edmonton Elks (0-5). The action then continues on Friday with the Toronto Argonauts (3-0) and Montreal Alouettes (2-2) colliding at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium.
The schedule concludes on Saturday with a pair of huge matchups. First, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (4-1) head to Canada’s capital to tangle with the Ottawa RedBlacks (1-3). Finally, the festivities end in the Prairies with the Calgary Stampeders (1-3) going head-to-head with the Saskatchewan Roughriders (3-1).
The BC Lions (4-1) are the only team with a bye week this time around.
Here’s a look at BetOnline’s odds for the CFL Week 6 matchups, as well as a prediction for each game.

CFL Week 6 Predictions and Picks
Tiger-Cats vs. Elks Betting Odds and Prediction
- Spread: Hamilton Tiger-Cats PK (-110), Edmonton Elks PK (-110)
- Total: OVER 42.5 (-110), UNDER 42.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: Hamilton Tiger-Cats N/A, Edmonton Elks N/A
We’re heading into the sixth week of the CFL campaign and the Elks continue to barely show any signs of life. They dropped to 0-5 with last week’s 12-11 loss to the Roughriders, further highlighting their scoring issues. Edmonton is only scoring an average of 12.4 PPG with a minus-11.6 average scoring margin.
Meanwhile, the Tiger-Cats finally broke out of their funk with a 21-13 win over the RedBlacks last Saturday. Hamilton quarterback Matthew Shiltz threw for 233 yards with a touchdown and interception while the team’s defense forced Ottawa’s QB tandem to dish out three interceptions.
Even though the Elks have the home-field advantage, they’ve done nothing to inspire confidence this season. The Tiger-Cats now know what victory feels like and will ride that momentum into CFL Week 6. Until Edmonton wins a game, it’s best to fade the Elks.
Prediction: Tiger-Cats 19, Elks 14
Best Bet: Tiger-Cats PK (-110)
Argonauts vs Alouettes Betting Odds and Prediction
- Spread: Toronto Argonauts -5.5 (-110), Montreal Alouettes +5.5 (-110)
- Total: OVER 48 (-110), UNDER 48 (-110)
- Moneyline: Toronto Argonauts -220, Montreal Alouettes +190
The Argonauts head into the CFL Week 6 schedule as the last team without a loss. They’re coming off their second bye week of the season, leaving time to tell if the rest will help their undefeated run. The Argos were last in action in Week 4, notching a 45-24 win over the BC Lions — the No. 1 team in the West Division.
The Alouettes, meanwhile, have suffered back-to-back losses after a 2-0 start to the season. They couldn’t get much going in last week’s 35-19 loss to the Lions as the Alouettes were held to six total points in the second half.
Upsets are a part of the CFL experience, but I don’t see that happening this week. If the Alouettes couldn’t beat the Lions, how do they expect to defeat the team that destroyed BC just two weeks ago? The Argonauts are Grey Cup contenders and will make that felt with another one-sided effort.
Prediction: Argonauts 38, Alouettes 19
Best Bet: Over 48 Total Points (-110)
Blue Bombers vs RedBlacks Betting Odds and Prediction
- Spread: Winnipeg Blue Bombers -9.5 (-115), Ottawa RedBlacks +9.5 (-105)
- Total: OVER 44.5 (-115), UNDER 44.5 (-105)
- Moneyline: Winnipeg Blue Bombers -410, Ottawa RedBlacks +330
The Blue Bombers are heavy favorites in this matchup and it isn’t hard to see why. Winnipeg is tied for the top spot in the West Division and is a strong effort that saw the team win 24-11 over the Stampeders last week. The Blue Bombers’ defense has been phenomenal lately, holding their last two opponents to 14 combined points.
The RedBlacks haven’t had much luck getting anything going in 2023. After tallying its first victory in Week 4, Ottawa returned to its losing ways with a 21-13 loss to the Tiger-Cats.
I’m taking the Blue Bombers to tally a convincing CFL Week 6 win. Their defense has been great and will give trouble to a Redblacks offense that’s only averaging 16.5 PPG. Even if Ottawa manages to get on the board, it’ll have a hard time keeping pace with Winnipeg’s attack, which averages 26.8 PPG — third-most in the CFL.
Although I see the Blue Bombers winning by a big margin, let’s take the over on the 44.5-point total instead as a safer option.
Prediction: Blue Bombers 36, RedBlacks 15
Best Bet: Over 44.5 Total Points (-115)
Stampeders vs Roughriders Betting Odds and Prediction
- Spread: Calgary Stampeders PK (-108), Saskatchewan Roughriders PK (-112)
- Total: OVER 44.5 (-105), UNDER 44.5 (-115)
- Moneyline: Calgary Stampeders N/A, Saskatchewan Roughriders N/A
The Stampeders could use a boost as they head into the CFL Week 6 action following back-to-back losses. Calgary barely mustered up any offense in last week’s 24-11 loss to the Blue Bombers as quarterbacks Jake Maier and Tommy Stevens could only combine for 127 passing yards on 29 attempts with one interception.
On the flip side, the Roughriders are gunning for their third consecutive victory. Their defense showed up to play in Week 5 as the Roughriders beat the Elks 12-11, holding the latter off the scoreboard completely in the fourth quarter. Having said that, Saskatchewan did play from behind for a good chunk of the game, highlighting the need for a more complete effort.
In a game that could go either way, I’m taking the Roughriders to win. They’ve at least won recently, whereas the Stampeders haven’t tasted victory since Week 2. It’s also hard to trust Calgary when it’s 0-3 against fellow West teams thus far.
Having said that, neither offense has looked particularly good this season, leading to the under being the best bet for this game.
Prediction: Roughriders 24, Stampeders 17
Best Bet: Under 44.5 Total Points (-115)
