See Picks & Statistics For The GameThe Los Angeles Angels and Colorado Rockies hope to put their losing ways behind them when the two clubs begin a three-game series at Coors Field on Friday. This weekend’s Angels vs Rockies series marks the only time that the pair will meet during the 2023 MLB season, meaning they both better make it count.
The Angels head into tonight’s action following back-to-back losses to the LA Dodgers. Both defeats came in the form of 2-0 losses, leaving time to tell if the Angels’ batters can find their groove tonight.
Meanwhile, Wednesday’s 5-3 loss to the Cincinnati Reds marked the Rockies’ eighth consecutive loss. Although each of those losses came on the road, don’t expect a return home to boost their odds considering that Coors Field hasn’t been the most positive environment for Colorado as of late.
Can the Angels avoid getting shut out for a third consecutive outing? Or will the Rockies finally break out of their skid before it gets worse?

Angels vs Rockies Game Preview
The Angels haven’t been able to score runs recently, but that could all change against the slumping Rockies tonight.
As mentioned before, the Rockies are in the midst of an eight-game losing streak. They didn’t show much promise in any of those games, only scoring 3.5 runs per game while allowing an average of 8.0. In fact, Colorado surrendered eight-plus runs five times during that span.
And even though paying at home is usually a positive thing, that might not be the case here. The Rockies are 1-5 in their last six road games with a minus-2.0 average scoring margin.
Meanwhile, the Angels have been victorious in six of their past eight road games. They’ve notched runs against tough teams like the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros over that stretch, meaning that defeating a weaker team like the Rockies shouldn’t be much of an issue.
One reason that the Angels had all that road success is their ability to hit home runs, tallying 17 round-trippers during that time. Unsurprisingly, Shohei Ohtani leads his team with six HRs in the last eight road games while nine other Los Angeles players homered as well.
Nevertheless, it’s intriguing to see if Rockies starting pitcher Kyle Freeland can slow down the Angels’ attack. The 30-year-old southpaw has been inconsistent throughout the 2023 campaign and is currently stuck in a rut, going 0-3 with a 6.14 ERA and only eight strikeouts over 22 innings in his last four starts.
The Angels have had success against left-handed pitchers this season, recording 24 home runs (T-No. 9 in MLB), a .260 batting average (No. 12), .332 on-base percentage (No. 10), and .424 slugging percentage (No. 9).
Los Angeles, on the other hand, is sending Patrick Sandoval in as its starting pitcher. Although he’s had his issues, too, the Mission Viejo, CA native pitched well in his last start on June 16, striking out six batters without allowing a run on four hits over seven innings in a 3-0 victory over the Kansas City Royals.
If Sandoval pitches well, the Angels should be able to capitalize on the fact that they’re 11-2 in their last 13 trips to Coors Field. Needless to say, it’s looking like it’ll be an uphill battle for the Rockies.
Angels vs Rockies Prediction and Picks
Angels vs Rockies Prediction: Angels 6, Rockies 3
Angels vs Rockies Best Bet: Angels -1.5 (Best Value: -110 ) & Under 11.5 Runs (Best Value: -114)
The Angels shouldn’t have an issue rebounding against one of the worst teams in baseball. The Rockies are looking terrible on both sides of the ball during their eight-game slide. As long as Los Angeles’ top bats show up and Sandoval remains strong on the mound, winning by multiple runs should be a given.
Keeping that in mind, let’s go with the under on the 11.5-run total as another solid Angels vs Rockies bet. For starters, the under is 4-1 in Los Angeles’ last five games and 9-1 in Colorado’s previous 10 on a Friday. Furthermore, seven of the last 11 meetings between these teams have featured fewer than 11.5 runs scored.
With the Angels coming off back-to-back shutouts and the Rockies struggling to score during their skid, an 11.5-run total is too high for my liking.
