As the final month of the 2023 MLB season is right around the corner, the Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox begin a three-game series Monday. The two clubs split last week’s Astros vs Red Sox series two games apiece, leaving time to tell how the upcoming battle unfolds.
The Astros are heading to Beantown following Sunday’s massive 17-4 victory over the Detroit Tigers that saw five Houston players record multiple RBIs. Meanwhile, the Red Sox will try to bounce back from yesterday’s disappointing 7-4 loss to the LA Dodgers.
Can the Astros win ago to stay in the AL West race? Or will the Red Sox play spoiler at Fenway Park?
This article has all of your Astros vs Red Sox betting news covered, ranging from the latest MLB odds to my top bets for tonight’s action.

Astros vs Red Sox Preview
A glance at the American League standings reveals that this matchup is crucial for both clubs’ postseason aspirations.
The Astros currently occupy the AL’s final wild-card position while also sitting one game back of the AL West lead. Meanwhile, some solid play as of late has helped the Red Sox turn things around to the point where they only sit 4.5 games behind the Astros for their wild-card spot.
These foes proved to be evenly matched just last week at Minute Maid Park. After Houston opened the series with back-to-back victories, Boston won the final two games by outscoring the host 24-6 on aggregate.
The Red Sox now have the home-field advantage, but that doesn’t mean a victory is guaranteed. After all, the Astros have won seven of their 12 previous trips to Fenway Park and are 27-19 on the road against AL opponents this season.
The Red Sox are turning to Chris Sale as their starting pitcher for tonight. The veteran lefty last appeared when he faced the Astros last Wednesday, striking out nine batters while allowing four runs over six innings in a 7-5 extra-innings win for Boston.
Following that outing, Sale is now 0-1 with a 4.58 ERA in his last four starts.
Meanwhile, the Astros’ Cristian Javier is coming off a win over the Red Sox last week after allowing three runs on seven hits with a trio of strikeouts over five innings. He’s also pitched seven innings over two previous appearances at Fenway Park, striking out six batters without allowing a run.
Having said that, it’s worth noting that the Astros have a 62.5% winning percentage against left-handed pitchers this season, whereas the Red Sox own a 50% success rate vs. righties.
Astros vs Red Sox Prediction and Picks
- Astros vs Red Sox Prediction: Astros 7, Red Sox 5
- Blue Jays Picks: Over 9.5 Total Runs (Best Value: -130 on BetOnline ) & Adam Duvall to Hit a Home Run (+280 on Bovada)
After losing their last two games against the Red Sox, I’m taking the Astros to win tonight. Houston has thrived in the underdog role lately and just scored a total of 26 runs in its last two games. I have a tough time imagining Dusty Baker’s club not capitalizing on that momentum.
Taking the over on the 9.5-run total is also a no-brainer considering how the Astros and Red Sox averaged 13.3 runs per game during last week’s series.
I am also taking Adam Duvall to record a home run at +280 odds on Bovada. Not only does he have five home runs in his last seven games, but all but two of his 16 HRs this season have come against righties. With the Boston crowd cheering him on, I like the idea of Duvall going yard again.
