See Picks & Statistics For The GameThe 2022 MLB season continues on Wednesday, Aug. 24 with another slate of exciting games, including a showdown between the Toronto Blue Jays (66-55) and the Boston Red Sox (60-63) at 7:10 p.m ET.
The two AL East foes began their three-game series on Tuesday, resulting in a massive 9-3 win for the Blue Jays. The victory cemented Toronto’s dominance over its rivals, marking the club’s 11th victory in 14 games against Boston this season.
Meanwhile, the Red Sox desperately need a win to keep their wild card hopes alive. They’re now seven games back of the American League’s final playoff spot and with three teams ahead of them, time is running out.
The Blue Jays are sending Jose Berrios to the mound while the Red Sox are countering with Brayan Bello as their starter.
Here’s a look at BetOnline Sportsbook’s odds, along with the best bets to make, ahead of today’s Blue Jays vs. Red Sox matchup.

Blue Jays Seek Fifth Straight Win vs. Red Sox
As mentioned before, the Blue Jays have had the Red Sox’s number in 2022. They’ve won six of the last seven meetings between the rival clubs, including each of the last four by a combined score of 49-13.
Tuesday’s 9-3 victory was the eighth time that Toronto has put up at least six runs against Boston this season. It’s also something that John Schneider’s club has accomplished in four of seven trips to Fenway Park this year.
Five different Blue Jays players had multiple hits during Tuesday’s victory. George Springer was one of those players, recording two hits and three RBIs in five at-bats. Cavan Biggio also was responsible for a chunk of that offense with a two-RBI single in the third inning.
Speaking of which, the third inning was Red Sox’s biggest issue last night. That was the frame where the Blue Jays scored eight of their nine runs and wouldn’t score again until the seventh.
Unfortunately, Bello’s presence on the mound doesn’t inspire confidence. The 23-year-old recently met the Blue Jays on July 24 and it didn’t go well. He only pitched four innings, giving up five runs on nine hits and a pair of walks en route to an 8-4 loss.
Though Berrios has been inconsistent this year, he’s pitched well against the Red Sox in 2022. He’s 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA in two starts against Boston this MLB season, allowing three runs on 13 hits while striking out 10 batters over 13 innings.
With the Blue Jays having both the hitting and pitching advantage here, things could get ugly quickly if Bello doesn’t pitch well right out of the gate.
Betting Trends for Blue Jays vs. Red Sox
- Toronto is 6-0 straight up in its last six road games against Boston.
- Boston is 5-13 straight up in its last 18 games against AL East teams.
- The total has hit the under in five of Toronto’s last seven games.
- The total has hit the over in five of Boston’s last six games against Toronto.
Blue Jays vs. Red Sox Prediction and Best Bets
Blue Jays vs. Red Sox Prediction: Blue Jays to win
Blue Jays vs. Red Sox Best Bets: Blue Jays -1.5 (-110 at BetOnline) & Over 9.5 (-104 at BetOnline)
The Blue Jays have dominated the Red Sox in every way possible this season, which is something that I expect to continue on Wednesday. Bello’s presence on the mound only increases the likelihood of that happening.
I’m comfortable with the Blue Jays winning by at least two runs here, so pick Toronto to cover the spread. Also, take the over considering that the Blue Jays and Red Sox have combined for an average of 15.5 runs in their last four meetings at Fenway Park.
