It’s a light schedule around the MLB with only seven games slated for Monday, July 8. The Atlanta Braves (49-39) are one club that will be in action as they travel to Chase Field to begin a four-game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks (45-45) at 9:40 p.m. ET.
The Braves will look for a third consecutive win after notching a 6-0 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks are coming off a 9-1 win against the San Diego Padres that saw Eugenio Suarez lead the charge with three hits, one home run, and five RBIs.
So, who’ll open this series with an all-important victory?

Braves vs Diamondbacks Predictions & MLB Picks Today (7/8)
Tonight’s matchup will likely impact the National League’s playoff race in some form. After all, the Braves head into this evening’s contest as the NL’s top wild-card team while the Diamondbacks sit two games behind the San Diego Padres for the final postseason spot.
Nevertheless, this series isn’t the first 2024 meeting between these clubs. They previously collided for a three-game series at Truist Park back in April, ending in a sweep for the Braves as they outscored the Diamondbacks 20-15 along the way.
With those victories, Atlanta now has four straight victories over Arizona on top of 10 victories in the last 13 meetings. Having said that, the Braves are only 5-8 SU against NL West clubs this season, which isn’t that bad considering that the D-backs are 6-10 SU against the NL East.
Still, the Diamondbacks can’t be underestimated after tallying six wins in their last eight outings — especially since two of those wins came against the LA Dodgers.
Will the Braves be the team that stops the Diamondbacks’ momentum?
And while the Braves are coming off back-to-back wins over the Phillies, they still have a lot to prove. After all, Brian Snitker’s club has won three consecutive outings since the middle of June, going 7-8 SU in the 15 games since then.
At the same time, Atlanta has a great shot at winning anytime Chris Sale is on the mound. The seven-time MLB All-Star has turned the clock back this season, going 11-3 with a 2.71 ERA in 16 starts while averaging 11.5 strikeouts per nine innings. He’s also allowed just three earned runs while amassing 28 strikeouts in his last 18 innings alone.
Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks’ Yilber Diaz is making his MLB debut tonight. The 23-year-old Venezuelan right hasn’t been that impressive in the minors this season, going 4-8 with a 4.38 ERA in 16 starts split between Triple-A Reno and Double-A Amarillo.
Do the Diamondbacks have what it takes to beat Braves LHP Chris Sale tonight?
Don’t overthink this matchup — the Braves will win tonight. As great as the Diamondbacks have been playing, the Braves have the clear pitching advantage in this matchup and there’s a reason why they’re 11-5 SU when Sale starts this season.
As for the best bet, I’ll take the Over on the 8-run total. This season’s three previous games between these teams saw an average of 11.7 runs scored as they finished each contest with no fewer than seven. The Over is now 5-2 in the last seven Braves-Diamondbacks matchups — a stretch that has seen a combined 13.9 runs per game.
Considering how Diaz may struggle against the Braves’ loaded lineup, it’s best to brace for some fireworks tonight.

Best Braves vs Diamondbacks MLB Player Prop (7/8)
For tonight’s best Braves vs. Diamondbacks player prop bet, I suggest backing Marcell Ozuna o1.5 total bases (-108).
Although his play has been up and down lately, Ozuna is coming off a strong effort against the Phillies that saw him amass 10 total bases in three games. The former two-time MLB All-Star now gets to face the Diamondbacks, who he’s played well against. In his last five contests vs. Arizona, Ozuna is batting .368 while tallying two doubles, two home runs, and 15 total bases (3.0 per contest).
After finishing with the Over twice in the three meetings against the D-backs earlier this season, I feel confident about this Ozuna prop tonight.
Best Braves vs. Diamondbacks MLB Prop Bet: Marcell Ozuna o1.5 Total Bases (-108)
