See Picks & Statistics For The GameThe 2022 MLB season is officially in the final stretch as just over two weeks remain on the regular-season schedule. There are several meaningful matchups slated for Friday, Sept. 23, including an NL East showdown between the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies.
The Braves are looking to rebound after Thursday’s 1-0 loss to the Phillies. Atlanta now sits 1.5 games behind the New York Mets for the NL East lead with 12 games to go, so a victory on Friday night is absolutely crucial for Brian Snitker’s club’s divisional hopes.
Meanwhile, another victory against their rivals would help solidify the Phillies’ spot in the NL Wild Card race. They currently occupy the final wild-card spot, sitting 2.5 games ahead of the Milwaukee Brewers, so another win would further the likelihood of a postseason appearance.
The Braves are sending in Jake Odorizzi as their starting pitcher while the Phillies are countering him with Aaron Nola.
Here’s a look at BetOnline Sportsbook’s odds for tonight’s Braves vs Phillies matchup, as well as a prediction and the best bets to make.

Braves vs Phillies Prediction and Best Bets
Braves vs Phillies Prediction: Phillies to win
Braves vs Phillies Best Bets: Phillies -1.5 (+134 at BetOnline) & Under 7 (-104 at BetOnline)
The 2022 season series between the Braves and Phillies has been fairly equal, with Atlanta finding victories in nine of the previous 16 matchups.
Having said that, the Braves haven’t performed too well in their recent trips to the City of Brotherly Love, dropping four of their last five games at Citizens Bank Park this season. Making matters worse, the Phillies have outscored the Braves by an average of 6.2 to 3.2 over that five-game stretch.
Beating the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park is something that’s tough for many teams, actually. Philadelphia has won 13 of its last 16 home games this season, so that combined with its success against Atlanta certainly gives the Phillies an edge here.
Something that also works in the Phillies’ favor is the fact that Odorizzi hasn’t played that well lately. While the Braves hurler is 1-1 in his last five starts, he’s given up 13 runs over on 23 hits for a 4.68 ERA, also issuing seven walks and six home runs in that span.
It also helps that Odorizzi has been terrible at Citizens Bank Park in his career. While he’s only made two starts in Philly, neither appearance went well, resulting in five walks and six runs on seven hits over just 5.2 innings for a 9.53 ERA.
Meanwhile, Nola should give the Phillies an advantage on the mound considering how he’s 14-10 with a 3.50 ERA in 29 career starts against the NL East rival. Only time will tell if he can continue that success.
While I expect another close-fought divisional battle, I see the Phillies stepping out with the win again. They’ve had the Braves’ number at Citizens Bank Park, which is a trend I expect to continue.
In addition to a Phillies win, I’m also taking the total hitting under seven runs. After all, the last five Atlanta-Philadelphia meetings have ended with an average total of 5.6 runs.
