The Dodgers are hungry to bounce back after getting embarrassed with an 8-1 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Sunday. The Twins aren’t looking much better, though, as they come off a 3-1 loss to the Cleveland Guardians, marking the fourth defeat in their last five outings.

Dodgers vs Twins Prediction & MLB Picks Today (4/8): Minny’s Home Struggles Continue

It isn’t a secret that both clubs could use a bounce-back performance tonight.

For the Dodgers, they must figure out how to limit runs. They were outscored 18-12 by the Cubs across their three-game series, which includes allowing at least eight runs in each loss. As a result of that performance, LA’s team ERA has fallen to 4.21 — 18th in the Majors.

While allowing runs hasn’t been the Twins’ biggest concern, scoring them is certainly one. Not only has Minnesota gone 1-4 SU in its last five outings, but Minnesota only averaged 2.4 runs during that stretch, being held to two or fewer in each loss.

It also doesn’t help that the Twins have lost their first two games at Target Field, falling to the Cleveland Guardians in consecutive outings over the weekend.

Scoring runs has been one of the Twins’ biggest issues for the last week. 

All eyes are on the Twins to see if they can produce a rare win over the Dodgers. Since the beginning of the 2014 campaign, Minnesota has been a putrid 1-12 SU across its last 13 meetings with LA, which includes nine multi-run losses.

Even worse is the fact that the Twins haven’t beaten the Dodgers at home since June 29, 2011. Los Angeles has won five straight trips to Minneapolis while outscoring the home team 33-13 on aggregate.

Another thing that the Dodgers have going for them is James Paxton on the mound. The veteran southpaw was solid in his 2024 debut, striking out five batters across as many innings without allowing a run in an 8-3 win against the San Francisco Giants last Monday.

Additionally, Paxton is 3-0 with a 3.48 ERA with 38 strikeouts in his last six games against Minnesota.

As for the Twins, they’ll be rolling with Bailey Ober this evening. Ober struggled in an 11-0 loss to the Kansas City Royals last week, surrendered eight earned runs on nine hits — including three homers — despite only pitching 1 1/3 innings.

Even with the Twins being hungry to win at home, I’m siding with the Dodgers. Dave Roberts’ club is due to bounce back after being embarrassed by the Cubs and history has proven that they know how to handle the Twins. If the bats can get to Ober early on, I see LA winning this game by a sizeable margin, which is why…

I’m also taking the Dodgers to cover the run line. Again, 75.0% of the Dodgers’ last 12 victories against the Twins came by multiple runs. Even if the pitching hasn’t been great lately, LA’s bats are more than capable of outgunning the opposition and I see that being the case tonight — especially if Ober’s struggles continue.
