Last night’s win over the Giants was a long time coming for the Phillies. After all, Philadelphia had previously lost six straight games against San Francisco, having last beaten Gabe Kapler’s club on June 1, 2022.

Having said that, it wasn’t surprising to see the Giants come up short last night. They’ve been dreadful beyond belief on the road lately, now dropping 13 of their last 15 away matchups following yesterday’s loss.

Even worse is that the Giants only scored an average of 2.9 runs in their last 15 road outings while boasting a minus-2.5 average run margin during that stretch.

Meanwhile, the Phillies have been rock-solid in their own backyard. Philadelphia has played to a 7-3 record in their last 10 games at Citizen Bank Park, scoring at least six runs in each victory.

Nick Castellanos has been his team’s best player during that time, racking up four HRs with eight RBIs while slashing .326/.326/.628 in 43 at-bats.

The Giants chances of bouncing back from their latest loss hinge on how Kyle Harrison performs in his MLB debut. San Francisco’s No. 1 prospect has spent the entire 2023 campaign with Triple-A Sacramento, going 1-3 with a 4.52 ERA while averaging 14.5 strikeouts per nine innings across 21 starts.

Meanwhile, the Phillies are rolling with Taijuan Walker to pick up where Nola left off. Although he struggled early on in the year, Walker has been phenomenal since the beginning of June, playing to a 9-2 record with a 2.78 ERA in his last 12 appearances.

At the same time, the 31-year-old veteran arm hasn’t beaten the Giants in six years, going 0-2 with a 7.71 ERA in his last three outings against them.

Nevertheless, San Francisco’s recent road woes open the door for Walker to reverse that trend. He’s been great at home this season (6-2, 3.11 ERA in 12 starts) so as long as he sticks with what’s working, beating the Giants is an achievable goal.

After last night’s victory, I see the Phillies winning again tonight. The Giants have been dreadful on the road and it’s hard to say how Harrison will play in his debut. Meanwhile, Philly has been great at home and will ride Walker to another victory.

I also expect Nick Castellanos to continue his hot streak, hence why I’m taking him to record over 1.5 total bases (+115). He’s made good on this prop in seven of his last 11 home games, averaging 2.8 TBs during that run. Furthermore, he’s racked up 42 hits while slashing .313/.357/.530 against left-handed pitchers this season.

If Harrison shows any signs of shakiness in his first-ever start, you have to assume that a veteran like Castellanos will exploit any weakness he sees.
