See Picks & Statistics For The GameAfter taking the first two games of the series, the San Diego Padres will have a series win in their sights when they take on the San Francisco Giants today at Petco Park.
Ahead of the visit from their NL West rivals, the Padres had lost eight of their previous ten games.
But it’s been so far, so good in this series, as they eked out a 2-1, 10-inning win on Thursday then followed it with a 6-3 win in yesterday’s matchup, with Blake Snell picking up his first win since August 31 of last year in the process.
In today’s encounter, Yu Darvish will be out to continue his fantastic form at home, while Carlos Rodon will be aiming to lead stumbling, sliding San Francisco to a much, much-needed win.

Struggling San Francisco Unlikely to Repeat Previous Performance Against Darvish
When Darvish last faced the Giants, it was ugly, to put it mildly.
In his second start of the season, Darvish faced the Giants at Oracle Park on April 12. And in just 1.2 innings in the 13-2 loss, he allowed eight hits, nine runs, and two walks.
Don’t expect similar results this time around, for a number of reasons.
Yesterday’s loss was the eighth in nine games for San Francisco, and they are just 1-7 thus far in July. In those eight games, they have scored just 23 runs and are hitting a mere .183.
And while the Giants hit better against right-handed pitchers (.234) than they do against left-handed pitchers (.231), they are hitting just .231 and averaging 4.51 runs per game in games started by righties and .239 and averaging 4.96 runs per game in games started by lefties.
This particular righty has been terrific at home this season, going 4-1 with a 1.75 ERA in seven starts, compared to 3-3 with a 5.25 ERA in eight road starts. In his home starts, opponents are hitting just .163 against him, while they are hitting .270 against him when he starts on the road.
Home and Away Splits for Yu Darvish in 2022
- Home (seven starts): 4-1, 1.75 ERA, 46.1 IP, 26 H, 9 R (9 ER), 8 BB, 45 K, 0.73 WHIP, .163 OBA
- Away (eight starts): 3-3, 5.25 ERA, 48 IP, 51, 28 R (28 ER), 10 BB, 40 K, 1.27 WHIP, .270 OBA
His most recent home start, which was against the Phillies on June 26, was the first time that he allowed three or more runs in a home start this season (he has done so five times in eight road starts). But it still wound up being his seventh quality start in seven home starts.
San Francisco Giants vs. San Diego Padres Prediction and Best Bets
Giants vs. Padres Prediction: Padres to win
Giants vs. Padres Best Bets: Padres ML (-108 at BetOnline) & Giants team total under 3.5 runs (-130 at BetUS & BetMGM)
As if Darvish’s home form and the Giants’ current struggles didn’t already tip things in favor of the Padres, so does San Diego’s comparative success against left-handed pitchers.
Batting Splits for the San Diego Padres
- Batting Average vs. LHP: .252
- Batting Average vs. RHP: .236
- Batting Average in Games Started by LHP: .253
- Batting Average in Games Started by RHP: .235
- Runs Per Game in Games Started by LHP: 4.48

If you’re looking for some extra action, Eric Hosmer is a player to target for some props. Hosmer leads the way for the Padres against left-handed pitchers (.345) and in games started by southpaws (.374). At BetOnline, Hosmer is +310 to collect 2+ hits and +160 to record 2+ total bases.
