See Picks & Statistics For The GameWith one gem at Citi Field to his name already this season, NL Cy Young Award favorite Sandy Alcantara will look to spin another one to help the Marlins to a series split with the Mets on Sunday afternoon.
The Mets are in position for the series win following yesterday’s 5-4, 10-inning win, in which they coughed up a lead twice then were trailing and down to their final out in extras before an RBI double by Tomas Nido and this rather catastrophic sequence for pitcher Tanner Scott.
After losing a game that they should have won, or at least extended to the 11th, the Marlins must pick themselves up as they did after getting routed 10-0 in Thursday’s series opener.
With Alcantara on the hill, they will certainly fancy themselves to do just that, but Taijuan Walker and the Mets will hope to have something to say about that.

Will Alcantara’s Ridiculous Road Run Roll On?
When Alcantara was last on the mound at Citi Field, he allowed two runs, six hits, and one walk and struck out eight in eight innings in a 6-2 win on June 19.
That outing is part of an ongoing road run that started in May. In his last five road starts, Alcantara is 3-0 with a 1.82 ERA. In that stretch, he has allowed nine runs (eight earned), 25 hits, and nine walks and struck out 36.
His most recent start against the Mets is just one of four all season that has not been a quality start for Alcantara. Five days after his gem at Citi Field, he allowed five runs (four earned) and six hits in seven innings in a 5-3 loss in Miami.
In his two starts since then, he had a complete-game road win against the St. Louis Cardinals and allowed two hits and no walks and struck out ten in eight shutout innings in a win over the Angels.
Walker took the win in that game in Miami and enters this start with five consecutive quality starts. So, he is certainly not to be overlooked here.
Miami Marlins vs. New York Mets Prediction and Best Bets
Marlins vs. Mets Prediction: Marlins to win
Marlins vs. Mets Best Bets: Marlins ML (+114 at BetUS) & Marlins team total over 3.5 runs (+108 at BetOnline)
Both teams are far more productive offensively in games started by right-handed pitchers, so it might be unwise to expect a low-scoring pitchers’ duel. After all, there have been eight total runs scored in each of Alcantara’s two starts against the Mets this season.
The Mets are hitting .258 and averaging 5.02 runs per game in games started by a right-hander (.253 and 4.47 runs per game in games started by a lefty), while the Marlins are hitting .247 and averaging 4.49 runs per game in games started by a righty (.226 and 3.61 runs per game in games started by a southpaw).
So, the winner of this matchup could have some decent run support to look forward to. I like the run that Walker is on right now, but I love the run that Alcantara is on, and I’m backing the Marlins to snag the series split here.
