Mets vs Brewers Predictions & MLB Picks Today (9/27)

As the 2024 MLB regular season winds down, tonight’s matchup features some playoff implications. After all, the Mets are still attempting to lock down the National League’s second wild-card position while the Brewers are already the NL Central winners, meaning they’ll be looking to spoil the opposition’s postseason goals.

New York and Milwaukee met for a three-game series at Citi Field back in March and things were lopsided, to say the least. The Brewers won all three encounters as they outscored the Mets 14-8 on aggregate. While a lot has changed in the months since then, the fact remains that the Brewers have now won five straight games over the Mets dating back to 2023.

Even more glaring is the fact that the Mets have dropped 13 of their last 15 trips to American Family Field, further illustrating just how badly the Brewers have their number.

It’ll be interesting to see how New York performs considering how it hasn’t played since Tuesday’s 5-1 loss to the Atlanta Braves. Interestingly enough, the Mets are 0-3 SU this season when playing on two or three days of rest.

Will the Brewers continue dominating the Mets? 

The Brewers, on the other hand, are 3-1 SU in their last four games after a brief hiccup last week. They’re now facing Mets LHP Sean Manaea as they try to keep their winning ways going.

Manaea has been a reliable arm throughout the year and continues to prove that. The 32-year-old southpaw hasn’t lost an appearance since Aug. 10, having gone 4-0 with a 2.95 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 55 innings across his last eight starts.

Meanwhile, the Brewers are countering Manaea with Frankie Montas. The Dominican hurler has struggled with consistency ever since he was acquired by Milwaukee ahead of the trade deadline and is coming off a Sept. 22 appearance that saw him surrender seven earned runs and a pair of homers in just 2 2/3 innings.

Will the Mets’ batters take advantage of Brewers RHP Frankie Montas’ recent struggles?

Let’s take the Mets to win tonight. New York has more reasons to win given the current playoff picture and it will be even more motivated to get revenge after being swept by Milwaukee in March. It’s also hard to trust the Brewers after Montas was absolutely shelled just five days ago.

As for the best bet, the Under on the 7.5-run total is calling my name. The Under is 5-2 in the Mets’ last seven games vs. the NL Central, as well as 8-3 across the Brewers last 11 home games. Considering how the Under is also 4-1 with a 6.8-run average in the last five New York-Milwaukee contests, I don’t anticipate many fireworks this evening.
