See Picks & Statistics For The GameThe 2023 Subway Series with another matchup between the New York Mets and New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday, July 26. The home team was left disappointed following Tuesday’s series opener, leaving time to tell how the second and final Mets vs Yankees matchup unfolds.
The Mets put an end to the Yankees’ winning streak with a massive 9-3 victory last night. First baseman Pete Alonso did most of the damage for the road club, racking up two home runs, a single, and five RBIS over five at-bats.
Can the Mets sweep the Subway Series to inch closer to a .500 record? Or will the Yankees defeat their inter-city rival to avoid back-to-back losses?
Here’s a look at everything you know heading into tonight’s Mets vs Yankees showdown, from the latest betting odds to a prediction with the best betting recommendation, courtesy of Betting News.

Mets vs Yankees Game Preview
The Subway Series has leaned in the Mets’ favor over the last few years. They’re 9-5 in their last 15 matchups with the Yankees, however, yesterday’s victory ended a three-game losing streak for the Mets at Yankee Stadium.
It’ll be interesting to see if that victory leads to better road luck for the visitors. The Mets have lost four of their last six road games and are 24-31 in away scenarios this season.
On the flip side, the Yankees have struggled in general lately, playing to a 5-15 record in their last 20 games while also losing four of their previous five encounters with a National League club.
Nevertheless, if the Mets are to win again, Jose Quintana needs another strong performance. The 34-year-old lefty only made his 2023 debut six days ago due to a rib injury but looked good doing so, allowing two runs on six hits with three strikeouts over five innings in a 6-2 loss to the Chicago White Sox.
Tonight, Quintana must out-duel fellow southpaw and former White Sox teammate Carlos Rodon. The veteran starting pitcher — who signed a six-year, $162 million deal with the Yankees in December — has not lived up to the hype thus far.
Like Quintana, Rodon didn’t make his 2023 debut until this month after dealing with a forearm injury suffered in spring training. He’s taken the loss in his first three starts of the year, tallying an abysmal 7.36 ERA and 1.432 WHIP along the way.
Even worse is that the Yankees didn’t give Rodon much run support, averaging just 1.7 runs per start.
The good news for Rodon is that the Mets don’t perform well against lefties, highlighted by their 10-23 record against southpaws. In fact, when it comes to left-handed pitchers, the Mets are batting .232 (No. 26 in MLB) with a .690 on-base plus slugging percentage (No. 25) and 246 strikeouts (10th-most).
While the Yankees are also batting just .232 against lefties, their 10-8 record against them highlights a better chance of success tonight.
Mets vs Yankees Prediction and Picks
Mets vs Yankees Prediction: Yankees 6, Mets 5
Mets vs Yankees Best Bet: Over 8.5 Total Runs (Best Value: -125 on BetOnline ) & Pete Alonso Over 0.5 Bases (-180 on Bovada)
After the Mets won yesterday, I’m taking the Yankees to even the Subway Series. The Mets just don’t play well against left-handed pitchers and Rodon is better than his recent play has shown. He’s due for a bounce-back performance and has the perfect opportunity to return to form tonight.
Regardless of who wins, I expect a high-scoring affair, meaning the Over on the 8.5-run total is the way to go. After all, the over is 11-4 in the last 15 Mets vs Yankees matchups at Yankee Stadium. Furthermore, these teams have averaged 9.9 runs in their last 10 meetings, regardless of where the games were played.
I also recommend taking the over on Pete Alonso’s 0.5-base total. He’s batting .474 with nine hits and two home runs in his last five games, racking up 19 total bases during that span. After making good on this prop in each game while amassing nine TB’s just last night, look for Alonso to keep his impressive run going tonight.
