After seeing off Max Scherzer last night, the New York Yankees will look for the sweep of their short Subway Series showdown with the Mets tonight at Yankee Stadium.

Are they on the other side of their skid? It’s too early to tell, but the Yankees have logged back-to-back wins right when they needed them.

On Sunday, Andrew Benintendi’s clutch homer helped them avoid a home sweep at the hands of the Toronto Blue Jays.

Last night, Benintendi had two hits and two RBI, and Aaron Judge hit his first homer since August 12 as the Bronx Bombers claimed their second 4-2 win in two days.

Tonight’s game is the last game of a nine-game homestand for the Yankees, who are set to embark on a ten-game road trip that will see them face the A’s, Angels, and Rays.

With their next home game not until September 5, they will no doubt be eager to give the home fans some warm and fuzzy feelings.

Resilient Visitors Primed for a Rebound Win

Last night’s loss was the fifth in nine games for the Mets, who are now just three games ahead of the Atlanta Braves, who won last night in Pittsburgh, in the NL East.

But they have done well with not stringing together consecutive losses all season long, with a three-game losing streak their longest to date.

No other team continues to come close to Buck Showalter’s club when it comes to having a short memory, as they are now 34-10 (.773) following a loss this season.

Last night’s loss dropped them to 21-10 in the second half, and since the All-Star break, they have dropped back-to-back games just twice.

So, things look pretty favorable for the visitors tonight, even as an underdog at Yankee Stadium.

Last Tuesday, Walker exited after only two innings in Atlanta due to what was diagnosed as a bulging disc in his back. It kept him from his scheduled start against the Phillies on Sunday, but he is making a quick return to action.
