Miami Marlins vs Arizona Diamondbacks, Prediction, Odds & Best Bets: May 24th, 2024

We’ve got some Friday Night Baseball in the desert as the Arizona Diamondbacks host the Miami Marlins tonight at Chase Field. Studs from both teams are on the mound for us as lefty, Braxton Garrett, makes his 3rd start this season for the Marlins, and he faces off against Zac Gallen for the Snakes.

Garrett has only made 2 starts and has only pitched 9.2 innings, but the 17-34 Marlins have won both outings he appeared it, beating the Phillies and Mets in extra innings each contest. Now, both of those were at home, so this is his first road start of the season, and the Diamondbacks’ bats will be a tall task away from home.

As for Gallen, he is much more comfortable pitching at Chase Field, and I will be backing him tonight because of it. Will he lead Arizona to a home win tonight? Or will the Marlins play spoiler and upset the Snakes on the road?

Will the Diamondbacks Defend the Desert?

Despite their sub .500 record overall and at home this season, we can’t forget that this Diamondbacks team went all the way to the World Series last year, losing to the Texas Rangers. They came out firing to start the season, scoring 16 runs in their first game, and are 8th in runs scored this year, averaging just under 5 per game.

The Marlins defense is trash. And their pitching isn’t much help either.

Miami ranks 29th in Team ERA, allowing 4.85 runs per game, and 25th in runs scored, averaging just 3.78 per contest. Ultimately, I think the Diamondbacks roll tonight, and I’ll be putting some coin on their stud on the mound to prove it. I heavily lean with the Snakes, and wouldn’t be opposed to betting on their run line, however I’ll stick to my player prop in this game.

Best Bets: Zac Gallen Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-148) BetOnline

Like I said before, Gallen is much more comfortable pitching at home. His career ERA drops from 3.20 to 2.79 at home, and this season his splits are incredible. He’s only started 4/9 games at Chase Field this year, but his stats show how he improves.

In those 4 home starts, Gallen is posting a 1.12 WHIP, a 1.55 ERA, and is striking out 1.12 batters per inning, all improving from his overall season statistics. Plus, Gallen excels at this low number.

He’s posted 6+ Ks in 6/9 games this season, including 3/4 at home, and three straight at Chase Field. Gallen posted 10+ Ks twice this year, and against the Marlins, he should have no problem sitting batters down. He’s had 7+ Ks in his L2 starts against the Marlins, and had 5 the time before that.

I think this is perfect spot to fade the Marlins and back Gallen, who is coming off an iffy start at home. I like him to hone in and focus as he leads the D-Backs to victory tonight.
