The Minnesota Twins are hosting the Boston Red Sox this week for a three game series at Target Field in Minneapolis. Game two of the series will take place on Wednesday night. The Twins were able to win the opening game of the series, defeating the Boston Red Sox, 6-2 at home. Boston looks to bounce back on Wednesday night.
Both teams had playoff aspirations heading into the 2018 season, but so far it appears that just one of the teams are playoff contenders. The Boston Red Sox have been battling the New York Yankees for the top spot in the AL East standings all season long, and appear to be a real threat to win a World Series Championship this season. The Twins have struggled through the first half of the season, and find themselves in third place in the American League Central. The Boston Red Sox are -140 over the Minnesota Twins in game two of the series.
Red Sox Have Deep, Talented Offense
The Boston Red Sox trail only the Houston Astros in total runs scored so far in the 2018 season. The Red Sox lineup is filled with up and coming stars, but they all know how to hit and work deep counts. The Boston offense is the main reason that they find themselves near the top of the AL East Division.
Outfielder Mookie Betts is having a career year for the Red Sox and is the tablesetter for them offensively. Betts leads the team in both batting average and on base percentage, and his .340 average ranks second in the American League. Meanwhile, J.D. Martinez has provided the power for Boston. Martinez in his first year as a Red Sox, leads the team in both home runs (22) and runs batted in (55). The Red Sox can score a ton of runs, and they are a nightmare for opposing pitchers.
The Red Sox will send left hander David Price to the mound for game two of the series. Price is having a nice bounce back year for Boston, posting an 8-4 record and a 3.76 ERA. Price beat the Seattle Mariners in his last start, allowing just 1 run in 7 innings pitched. Boston will need another strong performance from Price to get them back on track after losing on Tuesday.
Rosario, Escobar Trying to Keep Twins Afloat
The Minnesota Twins have struggled to score runs this season, and have seen two of their stars struggle through much of 2018. Miguel Sano and Brian Dozier were supposed to lead this team, but neither player is having a very good first half of the season. The Twins will need these two players to pick up their offensive game if they are going to contend in the AL Central.
The two players who have stepped up for the Twins this season are Eddie Rosario and Eduardo Escobar. Rosario leads the team in all of the major offensive categories and his .321 batting average ranks fifth best in the American League. Escobar is hitting .302 on the season, and his 30 doubles leads all of baseball. Escobar is on pace to hit 71 doubles this season, which would break the previous American League record of 67.
Lance Lynn will start for the Twins on Wednesday night. Lynn is in his first season with the Twins and has struggled through most of 2018. The former St. Louis Cardinal is just 4-5 and has a 4.98 ERA through 13 starts this season. Lynn will try his best to navigate through the very potent Red Sox offense in game two of the series.
Price, Red Sox Win Game Two
The Twins were able to get the bats going in the series opener, and will be looking to win their second straight against the Red Sox. Minnesota must find a way to find consistent offense, but face a tough challenge against David Price. Lance Lynn has struggled for the Twins this year, but when he is on top of his game is one of the top pitchers in baseball. Minnesota will need Lynn’s best stuff if they are going to slow down the Red Sox offense.
Boston knows that they must keep winning games to keep pace with the New York Yankees, and they must beat the teams that are below .500. The Red Sox blew a chance in the series opener, but Price will try to pitch the team to victory on Wednesday night. Look for the Red Sox offense to break out in a big way against Lynn, and win game two of the series. Bet the Boston Red Sox -140 over the Twins.
