The New York Mets (46-45) will look to sweep the Washington Nationals (42-51) when the two clubs collide for a 1:10 p.m. ET showdown at Citi Field on Thursday.
The Mets took a commanding 2-0 series lead with yesterday’s 6-2 win over the Nationals. Four different New York recorded multiple hits including Jose Iglesias, who went 3-for-4 in the box while driving in a pair of runners.
Will Washington find a way to end the series on a high note? Or is New York destined to pull off the home sweep?
There isn’t much time to waste before the action begins, so let’s get into my Nationals vs. Mets MLB predictions and best bets.

Nationals vs Mets Predictions & MLB Picks Today (7/11)
It’s pretty safe to say that this series has been one-sided thus far. The Mets have outgunned the Nationals through two games, outscoring them 13-7 on aggregate while also racking up 23 total hits to the latter’s 11.
The Nationals’ main issue is that they haven’t played a complete game yet. After not getting on the board until the eighth inning on Tuesday, Washington was held scoreless from the fifth inning onward last night. That’s just not going to be a good enough effort against the Mets, who have been one of the MLB’s hottest clubs since the beginning of June.
The same can’t be said for the Nationals, sitting at the bottom of the Majors with a 25.0% winning percentage since June 24. What’s even worse is that they head into tonight’s contest on a four-game losing streak which saw them fall by an average of 4.3 runs per outing.
That’s without mentioning how the Nats have dropped six of their last seven road games. Conversely, the Mets are 11-2 SU across their 13 previous home games.
The Mets have been red-hot at Citi Field throughout the last several weeks.
Nevertheless, Washington’s struggles in Queens aren’t that surprising. Citi Field hasn’t been a welcoming environment for the Nationals as they’ve now lost six of their last seven road games against the Mets.
The Mets are sending in David Peterson as they look to complete the sweep this afternoon. The 28-year-old lefty seems to get better with each passing 2024 start, going 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA in his last four starts, striking out 21 batters in as many innings along the way. That’s without mentioning how he owns a 4-1 record and 3.44 ERA in 11 career appearances (8 starts) against Washington.
As for the Nationals, they’re turning to MacKenzie Gore. While the former 2017 first-rounder has been solid for the most part this year, he’s been inconsistent lately, highlighted by a 7.07 ERA in his last three starts. It doesn’t help that he also hasn’t notched a victory since June 14.
Nationals LHP MacKenzie Gore must break out of his slump if Washington is going to win today.
With the way this series has gone so far, I expect the Mets to win again. Again, Washington has been the worst team in the MLB in recent weeks whereas New York is looking like a legitimate playoff threat. Unless Gore pitches his greatest performance of the season, I see this uphill battle being too much for the Nats to handle.
As far as the best bet goes, let’s just stick with the Mets on the moneyline.

Best Nationals vs Mets MLB Player Prop (7/11)
There are a few Nationals vs. Mets player props that stand out, including David Peterson o4.5 total strikeouts (-120)
Peterson has been consistent when it comes to these props in his recent appearances. He averaged 5.3 strikeouts in his last four starts, finishing with the Over in three of those appearances — including when he tallied five against the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 6. He now gets to face the Nationals, who are tied for the 16th-most Ks against lefties this season.
With Washington also batting .229 against southpaws (26th), I see Peterson having another solid showing on the mound.
