See Picks & Statistics For The GameThe 2022 MLB All-Star Break is almost here as this season’s baseball action continues with another exciting slate of games on Tuesday, July 12. One of today’s matchups happens to be a showdown between the Baltimore Orioles (43-44) and Chicago Cubs (34-52).
The Orioles have looked like a completely different team as of late. After opening the season as one of the American League’s worst teams, Baltimore is 23-15 in its last 38 games, having won eight straight ahead of this matchup.
On the other hand, the Cubs have had issues maintaining success for large periods of time. While they looked like they were finding success at the beginning of the month, they’ve since lost four games in a row, getting swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Jordan Lyles will get the start for the Orioles while the Cubs will send Adrian Sampson to the mound as he looks for his first victory of the season.
Here’s a look at BetOnline Sportsbook’s odds, along with the best bets to make, ahead of today’s Orioles vs. Cubs matchup.

Orioles Search for Ninth Win in a Row
The Orioles have truly silenced many doubters with the run that they’re currently on. Many saw them as basement-dwellers for the year, but it’s clear that there’s something special going on in Baltimore.
Winning nine games in a row is tough to achieve, but the Orioles have a real shot at it against a lowly team like the Cubs. The good news is that Chicago hasn’t done all too well at Wrigley Field since the start of June, going 6-9 in its last 15 home games.
If the Orioles are to take advantage of the situation, their best players need to keep delivering. One of those men is Ryan Mountcastle, who’s been his team’s primary offensive contributor lately.
Mountcastle leads his club with nine home runs and 25 RBIs in his last 37 games, getting walked 10 times while also stealing two bases. That isn’t even to mention his impressive .305/.346/.617 slash line, which is noticeably better than his career average of .272/.314/.491.
In total, the Orioles have five players who’ve recorded at least 18 RBIs in the club’s last 38 games. Baltimore has scored a total of 171 RBIs over that stretch, which ranks 11th-best in the Majors in that span.
In other words, the Cubs desperately need a strong pitching performance from Sampson. The 30-year-old righty began the season in the bullpen but has since transitioned into a starting role.
The thing about Sampson is that he can be hard to predict. Although he has two starts where he allowed two or fewer runs, he gave up four runs on eight hits in 5.1 innings against the Boston Red Sox on July 1. It’s safe to say that version of Sampson won’t help stop the red-hot Orioles.
Betting Trends for Orioles vs. Cubs
- Baltimore is 8-0 straight up in its last eight games.
- The Cubs are 6-1 straight up in their last seven games against Baltimore.
- The total has hit the over in eight of Baltimore’s last 10 road games.
- The total has hit the over in five of the Cubs’ last six home games against Baltimore.
Orioles vs. Cubs Prediction and Best Bets
Orioles vs. Cubs Prediction: Orioles to win
Orioles vs. Cubs Best Bets: Orioles ML (+102 at BetOnline) & Over 9 (-102 at BetOnline)
Even though the odds point to a victory for the Cubs, I’m taking the Orioles to pull off the upset on the road. Baltimore has been the much better team in recent months, whereas Chicago has been the complete opposite.
Bettors can get the best value by taking the Orioles at +102 on the moneyline, as well as the over at -102. Fireworks seem to fly when these two teams meet lately and I don’t expect that to change tonight.
