See Picks & Statistics For The GameThe Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees aim to make up ground in the AL East when they meet for the second time in as many nights on Wednesday, May 24. Last night’s game came down to the wire, needing extra innings to decide the victor. Will the same happen in tonight’s Orioles vs Yankees clash?
The Orioles were poised to walk away with the win before Aaron Judge’s 14th home run of the season forced a 5-5 tie at the bottom of the ninth inning. Anthony Volpe then hit a sacrifice fly to center field in the 10th inning, allowing Isiah Kiner-Falefa to score and give the Yankees the 6-5 win.
Can the Orioles return to their successful ways with a bounce-back performance? Or do the Yankees have what it takes to push their winning streak to six consecutive outings?
Here’s a look at everything you know heading into tonight’s Orioles vs Yankees showdown, from the latest betting odds to a prediction with the best betting recommendation, courtesy of Betting News.

Orioles vs Yankees Game Preview
Tuesday night’s lots further highlighted how difficult it’s been for the Orioles to beat the Yankees. Baltimore is just 6-14 in its last 20 matchups against New York, which includes losing three of their four meetings this season.
On top of that, the Orioles have struggled to beat their AL East rivals on the road, going an abysmal 7-22 in their past 29 trips to Yankee Stadium. Considering how the Yankees have a 63.0% winning percentage at home this season, it’s going to take a lot for the O’s to buck that trend.
One piece of silver lining for Baltimore is that Nestor Cortes is starting for New York. The Cuban hurler hasn’t been nearly as consistent as he was last season. Although his 4-2 record in nine starts is solid, his 5.21 ERA is his worst as a full-time starter.
Furthermore, Cortes has played even worse than that over the last month or so. He’s played to a 7.20 ERA in his last five starts, giving up a total of six homers, 20 earned runs on 28 hits, and 10 walks over his last 25 innings.
The Orioles hope that starting pitcher Tyler Wells can outplay his struggling counterpart. Fortunately, the 28-year-old has been one of his club’s best arms to begin the 2023 campaign.
Wells is off to the best start of his young career, going 3-1 with a 2.94 ERA through nine appearances (eight starts). He’s only surrendering 5.4 hits per nine innings while leading the entire MLB with a 0.788 WHIP.
Having said that, Wells must play better than he did in his first matchup against the Yankees earlier this season. The Tulsa, Oklahoma native gave up four runs on six hits over half-a-dozen innings of work in what went on to be a 5-3 loss for the Orioles.
Nevertheless, the Orioles have been playing solid baseball lately and just beat up on the Toronto Blue Jays. While they came up short against the Yankees last night, the O’s were close to winning before Judge turned things around. Knowing that victory was that close, expect Baltimore to do what it can to finally get the better of New York.
Orioles vs Yankees Game Prediction and Picks
Orioles vs Yankees Prediction: Orioles 5, Yankees 4
Orioles vs Yankees: Orioles ML (Best Value: +116 at BetOnline) & Over 8 Total Runs (Best Value: -118 at BetOnline)
I’m taking the Orioles to exact some revenge Wednesday. Victory was nearly in their grasp last night, so I see them using that as motivation to bring the Yankees back down to earth. New York is also at a disadvantage with Cortes on the mound and with how talented the road team’s lineup is, Baltimore shouldn’t have any issues scoring runs tonight.
It’s also a good idea to take the over on the 8-run total. For starters, three of the previous four Orioles vs Yankees matchups this season have seen at least eight runs scored. Additionally, the over is 6-2 in Baltimore’s last eight road games as well as 8-0 in New York’s previous eight at home.
With the two sides averaging a combined 9.7 runs per game in 2023, an 8-run projected total is too low for this affair.
