The Padres continued their success in this series with a massive 9-1 victory over the Braves on Sunday. Three San Diego batters homered on the day as Yu Darvish racked up nine strikeouts with two hits allowed across seven scoreless innings.
Can San Diego take one step closer to sweeping this series? Or will Atlanta finally give its home fans something to cheer about?

Padres vs Braves Doubleheader Game 1 Predictions & MLB Picks Today (5/20)
The Braves must win Game 1 of today’s doubleheader if they hope to at least split the series with the Padres. Atlanta has struggled to keep things close through the first two contests, having been outscored 12-2 on aggregate thus far.
Lackluster play on both sides of the ball is the reason why the Braves are in danger of losing a fourth consecutive outing this afternoon. They’ve allowed an average of 6.3 runs across the last three games (compared to their team ERA of 3.46, 9th) while boasting a minus-5.3 average scoring margin.
What’s even worse is that the Braves have now lost five straight home games against the Padres, being outscored 31-9 on aggregate. At the same time, San Diego is 4-1 straight in its last five road games this season.
The Padres also own the MLB’s fourth-best success rate as the road underdog (64.3%) in 2024.
The Braves must figure out how to have success at Truist Park again.
Looking to get back on track, the Braves will turn to Reynaldo Lopez on the mound. The 30-year-old righty has been terrific throughout the 2024 season, but he’s done his best work at Truist Park, pitching to a 0.77 ERA with 21 strikeouts across 23 1/3 innings in four home starts.
Meanwhile, the Padres are countering Lopez with NL Cy Young candidate Dylan Cease (+700, 4th on BetOnline). The former 2014 sixth-rounder has lived up to the hype since being traded to San Diego over the offseason, going 5-3 with a 2.45 ERA with 11.1 strikeouts and an MLB-leading 4.3 hits allowed per nine innings.
Furthermore, Cease won on his only previous trip to Truist Park, striking out six batters with one run allowed across five innings in an 8-1 win with the Chicago White Sox last July.
At the end of the day, momentum is on the Padres’ side but I’m taking the Braves to win. Atlanta is much better than it has looked in the last two games, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Brian Snitker finally gets his team back on track. After all, every skid eventually has to come to an end.
As for the best bet, the Under on the 7.5-run total seems appropriate. Not only is the Under a dominant 14-7-1 at Truist Park, but it’s also 5-3 in the last eight Padres-Braves matchups, which saw an average of 6.5 runs scored.
Considering how Lopez and Cease are two of the National League’s best pitchers in the first half, I won’t be shocked if we don’t see a ton of runs scored in Game 1.

Best Padres vs Braves MLB Player Prop (5/20)
I’m feeling a bit sauce regarding my Padres vs. Braves player prop pick, so let’s take the Over on Dylan Cease’s 7.5-strikeout total (+114).
[su_icon icon="icon: check-circle" background="#F4F7FC" color="#2FBB9C" text_color="#1F2933" size="16" shape_size="4" radius="256" text_size="14" url="" margin="0"] $10 Cash Bonus with code "BNEWS" [/su_icon]

Cease has been a strikeout machine throughout his six-year career and his 2024 performance has solidified that fact. The 28-year-old hurler is averaging 8.2 Ks in his last five starts while finishing with the Over on this prop four times — including in each of his last three appearances.
Meanwhile, the Braves average the seventh-most strikeouts at home and have already amassed 29 Ks through the first two games of this series. In other words, there’s a good chance that Cease has another productive showing on the mound.
