Padres vs Dodgers Game 5 Predictions & MLB Picks Today (10/11)
A ticket to the 2024 NLCS is on the line when these NL West rivals collide in Los Angeles tonight.
The Padres had a chance to move on to the next round on Wednesday but couldn’t get the job done. The Dodgers tied up the series with a massive 8-0 victory in Game 4 as Mookie Betts, Will Smith, and Gavin Lux each tallied a home run to help lead the offensive charge.
The teams now return to Dodger Stadium where the Dodgers are a solid 53-30 SU between the regular season and playoffs. Conversely, the Padres are 49-34 SU in away scenarios and have a 58.3% win percentage as the road underdog in 2024 — third best in the Majors.
Having said that, the Dodgers have now won four of their last six matchups with the Padres dating back to the regular season. That includes a 3-1 SU record at Dodger Stadium during that stretch.
Do the Dodgers have what it takes to defeat the Padres once again at Dodger Stadium?
If the Dodgers want to reach their sixth NLCS since 2013, RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto must have a stronger performance. Even though the Dodgers won Game 1, the Japanese hurler struggled as he allowed five earned runs and a homer on five hits before being removed after just three innings.
Issues with the Padres aren’t anything new for Yamamoto, though. The 26-year-old has now allowed 13 earned runs in nine innings against San Diego in 2024.
Meanwhile, the Padres are hoping to see RHP Yu Darvish build off his latest outing. The five-time MLB All-Star hardly broke a sweat in his team’s Game 2 victory, allowing just one run while striking out three batters across seven innings.
Following that performance, Darvish now owns a 2.56 ERA while holding batters to a .204/.276/.416 slash line in his last six postseason starts (38 2/3 innings).
Padres RHP Yu Darvish has been a terrific postseason pitcher throughout his MLB career.
Even though the Dodgers have the momentum on their side, I’m predicting a Padres upset tonight. Call me crazy, but I just can’t myself to back the home team after Yamamoto’s disastrous showcase in Game 1. If history repeats itself, the Padres could get off to a big lead early on and not look back — especially if Darvish brings his usual stuff to the mound.
With that being said, I also have no issue backing the Over on the 8.5-run total tonight. The Over is 4-2 in the Padres’ last six home games and 8-3 in the Dodgers’ last 11 outings at home. That’s without mentioning how this series has averaged 10.8 runs per game thus far, finishing with nine or more three times.

Best Padres vs Dodgers Game 5 Player Prop (10/11)
There are several interesting Padres vs. Dodgers NLDS Game 5 player props out there. However, I’m going with Yoshinobu Yamamoto o1.5 earned runs (-121) for my prop pick of the night.
Even though Yamamoto had an impressive first year in the MLB, his play has dropped off lately. He’s pitched to a 9.00 ERA in his last three starts after surrendering 11 earned runs in as many innings. While he’s only given up two or more earned runs 10 times this season, three of those instances occurred in his last trio of appearances.
Considering how the Over is also 3-0 in three career matchups against the Padres, I don’t expect a master class from Yamamoto tonight.
Best Padres vs. Dodgers Prop Bet: Yoshinobu Yamamoto o1.5 Earned Runs (-121)
