This week’s series could potentially decide the 2024 NL West race. The Dodgers head into tonight’s matchup with a three-game lead over the Padres, meaning what happens over the next few days will shape how the postseason begins.

But while LA is currently leading the division, San Diego is the team that’s had the upper hand this season. After all, the Padres are 7-3 SU across 10 previous meetings with the Dodgers in 2024, which includes winning each of the last three clashes by an average of 4.0 runs per outing.

Even though the Padres are the road team this time around, that might not matter. Not only are they currently on a four-game win streak, but they also went 5-1 SU across their last six road games, proving that they can thrive in enemy territory.

The Dodgers have also been solid, though, with wins in six of their last eight outings. They’ve also been one of the better home teams across the Majors, however, that might not matter given that the Padres are 4-1 SU on their last five trips to Dodger Stadium.

The Padres are turning to RHP Michael King to continue their success against the Dodgers.

In a game that could go either way, I predict that the Dodgers will beat the Padres. LA will be motivated to further cement its NL West lead, especially after how the season series has gone thus far. Throw in the fact that the Padres are struggling to score with King on the mound and it’s even clearer that the home team will win.

As for the best bet, let’s take the Padres to score fewer than 4.5 total runs. Not only do they struggle to score when King pitches, but they’re also averaging only 3.9 runs in their last seven games while finishing with the Under in six of those outings. Considering how the Dodgers have held their opponents to the Under in five of their last eight games, I expect more of the same this evening.
