See Picks & Statistics For The GameIt has been a fruitless trip to the Mile High City for the San Diego Padres, but they can at least salvage something with a win in today’s series finale against the Colorado Rockies.
The Padres went into their series against the Rockies with 10 wins in 13 games and had just swept the Cubs in a four-game series at Wrigley Field.
But the Rockies, who entered the series with 10 losses in 14 games and 26 losses in 37 games, throttled rookie Mackenzie Gore in a 10-4 win on Friday and followed it with a 5-4 win yesterday.
San Diego’s time in sole possession of first place in the NL West didn’t last long, but they can at least exit the weekend tied atop the division with the Los Angeles Dodgers if they can get a consolation win in this afternoon’s matchup.

Senzatela, Snell Seek Rewards for Positive Performances
Both starting pitchers in today’s matchup have spent some time sidelined this season, and both have had their struggles this season as well.
Snell did not make his season debut until May 18, and his first five starts have been a mixed bag. But he is coming off of one of his best starts of the season, which came last Sunday at Petco Park against this same team.
In six innings, he allowed two runs, six hits, and two walks and struck out seven. He trailed when he exited, but after the Padres tied the game at 2 in the bottom of the seventh, Ryan McMahon–who hit the tiebreaking home run in the eighth yesterday–produced what proved to be the winning runs with a two-run double in the eighth.
Though he is still looking for his first win of the season, that was a positive performance for Snell.
The same can be said for Senzatela, who has had two quality starts since allowing a season-high 13 hits and six runs against the Miami Marlins to open June.
The Rockies lost both games in 10 innings, going down to the Giants on the road and the Guardians at home. But after recording only one quality start in his first eight starts this season may be a springboard for success today and beyond for the 26-year-old righty.
San Diego Padres vs. Colorado Rockies Prediction and Best Bets
Padres vs. Rockies Prediction: Rockies to win
Padres vs. Rockies Best Bets: Rockies ML (+114 at BetOnline) & Padres/Rockies UNDER 12.5 (-105 at Bovada Sportsbook & MyBookie)
Senzatela’s career numbers against the Padres are pretty good, as he is 7-3 with a 3.30 ERA in 17 appearances (11 starts) against San Diego.
Recent numbers carry more weight than numbers from, say 2017 or 2018, and he is 1-2 with a 3.30 ERA in five starts against the Friars in five starts since the start of the 2020 season.
Senzatela’s best numbers are at Coors Field, where he is 2-1 with a 3.90 ERA in seven starts this season and 8-4 with a 3.55 ERA in 27 starts since the start of the 2020 season.
So, there is good reason to feel confident that his small surge will continue against San Diego and that it will lead to his first win since April 29 against the Cincinnati Reds.
Backing an under at Coors Field is always a dicey decision, but the under has an 8-13-0 record this season when the Rockies have been a home underdog. And with both starting pitchers coming in off of solid starts, the under is a solid play today.
