A new week of MLB action begins on Monday, including the start of a three-game series between the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves. These NL East rivals have already collided 10 times this season, leaving time to tell who’ll start the final Phillies vs. Braves series on the right note.
The Phillies continue their road trip after defeating the St. Louis Cardinals twice in three games at Busch Stadium. Meanwhile, the Braves return home after suffering a three-game sweep at the hands of the Miami Marlins.
Can the Phillies cement themselves as playoff threats by winning tonight? Or will the Braves prove, once again, why they’re currently the No. 1 team in the Majors?

Phillies vs Braves Game Preview
Tonight’s Phillies vs. Braves is a potential NL Division Series preview. After all, if the playoffs ended today, Philadelphia would face the Arizona Diamondbacks in the Wild Card Series with the winner of that clash facing Atlanta.
While there are a few weeks until we find out if that becomes reality, you don’t have to go too far back to find when these rival clubs last met. The Phillies host the Braves at Citizens Bank Park for a four-game series last week, resulting in three victories for the visitors.
At the end of the day, it was just more of the same.
After all, the Braves are 7-3 against the Phillies in the 10 matchups they’ve played so far this season. Six of those victories came in the last seven encounters as Atlanta outscored Philly by an average of 2.4 runs during that span.
If the Phillies are to keep things closer, another strong start from Zack Wheeler is needed.
On one hand, Wheeler has been great this season, going 11-6 with a 3.70 ERA across 29 starts. On the other hand, he was beaten up in a 7-6 loss to the Braves last week, allowing three homers and six earned runs on seven hits over five innings of work.
Nevertheless, it’s worth noting that the 33-year-old veteran is 3-2 with a 2.08 ERA in his last five trips to Truist Park.
The Braves, meanwhile, turn to Kyle Wright as they look to avoid a third consecutive loss.
The former 2017 first-rounder hasn’t played up to snuff this season, highlighted by an 0-2 record and 7.48 ERA in six starts thus far. He has won three of his last four starts against the Phillies, though, making it interesting to see if Wright bounces back.
Phillies vs Braves Prediction (Sept. 18)
The Braves are due for a bounce-back performance, so I’m taking them to win tonight. The Phillies have struggled against their divisional rival this season and last week’s series just magnified that.
With a 13-7 ATS record against the NL East at home this season, Atlanta covering the 1.5-point spread is more likely than Philadelphia covering, especially with the visitors being 8-12 ATS on the road against the division in 2023.
Prediction: ATL 6, PHI 5
Bet: Braves +1.5 (-165 on Bovada)
Phillies vs. Braves Player Prop
When it comes to a Phillies vs. Braves player prop, I’m going with Kyle Scwarber recording an RBI at +140 odds.
Schwarber has been one of the Phillies’ best road performers lately, batting .286 with seven HRs and 12 RBIs in his last 12 away games. With Wright giving up a ton of runs this season, I see Schwarber having plenty of opportunities to drive in at least one of his teammates tonight.
