As it stands, the NL West may come down to the last day of the season, and depending on how the wild card shapes out, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Colorado Rockies are fighting for their playoff lives with one team advancing and the other possibly going home.
To add even more intrigue to the mix, the two teams are finishing a three-game series, the last time they will play each other this season unless a tiebreaker is needed. After dropping the first two games of the series, the Colorado Rockies (83-68) travel to Dodger Stadium to take on the Los Angeles Dodgers (83-69), looking to cut the division lead down to one-half game again.
Trying to get the decisive victory, the Rockies will send lefty Tyler Anderson (6-9, 4.82 ERA) to the mound to square off with the Dodgers’ Walker Buehler (7-5, 2.88 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 10:10 pm ET.
The money line for Wednesday night’s game is set at the Colorado Rockies +200 and the Los Angeles Dodgers -210. The over/under on total runs scored stands at 7.5.
Rockies Hoping For Push To The Playoffs
Despite what has seemingly been a three-way battle between the Rockies, Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks, Colorado is trying to make a push to the playoffs. With the Dodgers standing in their way, they will send lefty Tyler Anderson to the mound.
On the season, Anderson is 6-9 with a 4.82 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and opponents are hitting .254 against him. In 162.1 innings, he has 155 strikeouts, 54 walks and has allowed a whopping 29 home runs. Anderson has taken two straight losses, and in those two games, he has gone a combined 8.2 innings, allowing 5 earned runs and striking out 8. To beat a solid Dodgers team, the Rockies will hope for a better outing than that.
On the offensive side, Charlie Blackmon has been on fire over the last month. In that time, he is hitting .347/.407/.574 with a .981 OPS. Over that stretch he has 9 doubles, a triple, 5 home runs, 12 runs batted in, 20 runs scored and has stolen 6 bases. In his career against Walker Buehler, he is 3 for 12 with a home run and 3 runs batted in.
One player they will be without is Trevor Story.
The shortstop, who was making some pushes to be in the MVP conversation, left Monday’s 8-2 loss with an elbow injury. Despite the scare, the Rockies did get some good news on Tuesday, though, in that Story will only have to miss a few days as the MRI came back with just inflammation in his right elbow, not an injury to any ligaments. Still, he will be out for Wednesday’s contest.
Dodgers Looking For Another Chance At Postseason
After a heartbreaking loss in the World Series last season, the Dodgers are hoping for another run at the postseason this year. To try to get one step closer to it, the Dodgers will turn to righty Walker Buehler on Wednesday. On the season, he is 7-5 with a 2.88 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and opponents are hitting just .201 against him. In 118.2 innings this year, he has 131 strikeouts, 31 walks and has allowed 12 home runs. He was dominant in his last outing, a 3-0 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. He went 8 innings of shutout ball, striking out 9.
Despite dealing with injuries for a lot of the season, Justin Turner has really started to swing the bat well. On the season, he is hitting .324/.420/.535 with a .954 OPS. He has 13 home runs, 47 runs batted in and scored 55 runs in only 318 at-bats. Even more impressive, he has hit Tyler Anderson well in his career. Against the lefty, Turner is 13 for 26 with a home run and 5 runs batted in. Look for him to have a good game on Wednesday.
Dodgers Too Much For Rockies In This One
Even without Trevor Story, I love the Rockies offense, but I hate their pitching matchup in this one. Tyler Anderson has not been good as of late and Walker Buehler has been pitching lights out as of late. The Rockies offense is good enough to break out at any point, but I am taking the hot hand in this one. Take the Dodgers at -210.
