Tigers vs Orioles Predictions & MLB Picks Today (9/20)

Tonight’s showdown could have an impact on the American League playoff race. The Orioles head into this evening’s action as the No. 1 AL wild card team while the Tigers are tied with the Minnesota Twins for the final postseason position.

The Tigers might be the road team tonight, however, a ton of momentum is on their side. They’re 9-2 SU across their last 11 games and will march into Camden Yards on a four-game win streak that saw them outscore those opponents 18-11 on aggregate — an average of 1.8 runs per game.

Meanwhile, life has been rough for the Orioles with a 3-8 SU record in their last 11 outings. Although the O’s are coming off Thursday’s 5-3 win against the San Francisco Giants, it’s important to note that they haven’t won consecutive games since the beginning of the month.

Furthermore, Baltimore is 1-4 SU in its last five home games while Detroit is currently on a five-game win streak on the road.

Do the Orioles have what it takes to stop the bleeding at home?

As far as the recent history between these clubs goes, the Orioles are 7-3 SU across their last 10 games against the Tigers. Having said that, Detroit emerged victorious in two of three meetings with Baltimore at Comerica Park last week.

The Tigers are sending RHP Keider Montero to the mound to try to keep his team’s win streak alive. The 24-year-old hurler pitched five scoreless innings against the Orioles on Sept. 15, meaning he’s now gone 14 consecutive frames without allowing a run while striking out six batters along the way.

Standing opposite Montero is Orioles RHP Corbin Burnes. The former NL Cy Young winner has been up to his usual antics, having gone 2-2 with a 1.57 ERA and 18 strikeouts in his last four starts. He did strike out seven batters in a 4-2 win over the Tigers on Sept. 14, leaving time to tell if he can replicate that performance tonight.

In fact, Burnes is now 2-0 with an 0.82 ERA (that isn’t a typo) in four career games (3 starts) vs. Detroit.

Orioles RHP Corbin Burnes continues to be one of the AL’s top pitchers this season. 

Taking the above into account, I like the Tigers in this matchup. Detroit has been playing well on the road and will be desperate to solidify its playoff positioning. Given that the Tigers also defeated the Orioles twice less than a week ago, I wouldn’t be surprised if the visitors came out on top.

Additionally, let’s go with the Tigers on the run line. I like the value that comes with them being the 1.5-run underdogs and even if the Orioles win, the Tigers are good enough to keep things with one run.

Best Tigers vs Orioles MLB Player Prop (9/20)

Even though it’s a small sample size, Rogers has been playing exceptionally well lately. The 29-year-old Tigers catcher isn’t known for his offense, however, he’s slashing .375/.412/.438 while tallying five singles and a double in his last six games (16 at-bats). He finished with the Over on this prop in four of those games, including when he tallied a pair of hits against the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday.

Sometimes it’s best to stick with the hot hand, which is why I expect at least one hit from Rogers tonight.
