See Picks & Statistics For The GameAfter being the hunted for much of the season, the Minnesota Twins are now doing the hunting in the AL Central. They stayed hot on Cleveland’s tracks by winning their series opener against the Los Angeles Angels and will hope to achieve that minimum result again tonight in Anaheim.
After dropping two games against the Dodgers in midweek action, Minnesota ended a three-game losing streak last night with a 4-0 win at Angel Stadium.
Trade acquisition Tyler Mahle, making his second start with the Twins, pitched six shutout innings to help lead the Twins over the Angels, while most of the heavy lifting on offense was done by Gio Urshela (3 for 4, HR, RBI, 2 R) and Gilberto Celestino, who hit a two-run homer in the second inning.
Tonight, Minnesota will look to get another strong effort on the mound, this time from someone who will be pretty familiar with a number of the hitters he will be facing.

Can Bundy Outduel Former Teammate Detmers?
Last season, Dylan Bundy suffered through one of the worst seasons of his MLB career, going 2-9 with a 6.06 ERA in 23 appearances (19 starts) with the Angels.
It was quite the drop-off after he went 6-3 with a career-best 3.29 ERA in 2020, his first season in Anaheim. He was even moved out of the rotation and into a bullpen role during the season, before ending his year in the rotation.
In the offseason, Bundy signed a one-year deal with the Twins, and while he hasn’t been outstanding, he enters his return to Angel Stadium with a winning record.
Look beyond the fact that he has a winning record and there isn’t much to love. Minnesota is just 8-11 in his starts this season, and he has a WAR of -0.2.
But in his wins, he has gotten some decent run support, and if the Twins can put up five or more runs tonight, that bodes well.
However, that is going to be a pretty tall task against Detmers. The 23-year-old had some rough moments after his no-hitter in May, but a brief demotion to the minors was the refresh he needed.
In five starts since returning to the bigs, Detmers is 2-0 with a 1.16 ERA. In 31 innings, he has allowed five runs (four earned), 19 hits, and 10 walks and struck out 38.
Detmers gave up a homer against Seattle in his most recent start last Saturday, surrendering his first long ball since his MLB return last month. That is pretty big, considering that he had allowed multiple homers four times in the six starts between his no-no and his demotion.
Minnesota Twins vs. Los Angeles Angels Prediction and Picks
Twins vs. Angels Prediction: Angels to win
Twins vs. Angels Picks: Angels ML (Best Value: -105 at Bovada Sportsbook)
Among teams currently in the playoff race in either league, the Twins have the worst win percentage in games following a win this season. At 25-32 (.439), Minnesota is behind even the Angels (22-27, .449).
The Chicago White Sox, whose hatred of prosperity has been noted at length by yours truly, are next worst among potential playoff teams, coming in at 26-30 (.464).
So, it’s hard to have faith in them getting the job done tonight, especially with Detmers pitching well and Bundy’s numbers being far from convincing.
