See Picks & Statistics For The GameThe Washington Nationals are on one of their best runs of the MLB season, with five wins in their last six games. Can they keep it going tonight on the road as they begin a four-game series against the New York Mets (7:10 pm ET, ESPN+)?
Only one other time this season has Washington won five of six games, and they have not won more than three consecutive games since June 2021.
But the Nationals have a chance to tie their longest win streak since that point with a win tonight, and they will have their best pitcher on the mound as they attempt to do so.
Can Josiah Gray outduel Kodai Senga to give Washington a third straight win and a sixth in seven games? Read on for our prediction and picks for tonight’s matchup at Citi Field, but first, let’s take a look at Nationals vs Mets odds, courtesy of Bovada.

Gray Out to Match April Gem at Citi Field
There aren’t going to be a lot of bright spots when you are 16 games under .500 and potentially on your way to finish last in your division for the third season in a row.
But Gray has been one of the biggest positives for the Nationals this year. The 25-year-old righty even played a hand in the National League’s win over the American League in the MLB All-Star Game earlier this month, tossing a scoreless third inning in the NL’s 3-2 win.
Gray’s season didn’t get off to the best of beginnings, as he lost his first four starts in 2023.
However, his fortunes turned with a gem at Citi Field, where he will be pitching tonight. On April 25, he allowed only four hits and a walk and struck out a season-high nine to pick up his first win of the season.
In Gray’s most recent road start, he allowed four runs and ten hits in five innings as the Nationals fell 8-4 against the Cardinals eleven days ago.
But on the whole, he has been at his best away from Nationals Park. He has allowed two or fewer runs while pitching five or more innings eight times in a dozen starts.
While Gray has been at his best on the road, Senga has been at his best at home. There, he is 3-2 with a 2.50 ERA in nine starts.
Senga had a couple of subpar starts last month, which was his poorest month ERA-wise to date. But he has otherwise been pretty sharp at home. He has allowed two or fewer runs while pitching five or more innings in seven of his nine starts there.
With how things line up on both sides, should we expect the under tonight? Through 45 home games for the Mets in 2023, the under is 29-14-2 (67.4%). That is the best percentage of success in the league.
Additionally, the under is 21-13-1 (61.2%) when the Mets have been favored at home. That is the fifth-best percentage in the league.
Washington Nationals vs New York Mets Prediction and Best Bets
Prediction for Nationals vs Mets: Mets to win
Best Bet for Nationals vs Mets: Nationals/Mets under 9 (-105)
It’s best to stay away from an ML or RL pick for a matchup between two bad teams. But if you must make one, exercise extreme caution. That said, the under looks like an excellent pick here with Gray and Senga on the mound.
