Wednesday’s MLB schedule will see the New York Yankees (55-38) and Tampa Bay Rays (45-46) collide for the second encounter of their three-game series at 6:50 p.m. ET.
The Rays opened the series on a high note, picking up a 5-3 win over the Yankees on Tuesday. An explosive first inning that featured a three-run homer from Isaac Paredes was all that Tampa Bay needed to hand slumping New York another loss.
Can New York bounce back after yesterday’s loss? Or will Tampa Bay figure out how to clinch the series with another victory?
Let’s answer those questions while checking out some of today’s best MLB bets as we dive into my Yankees vs. Rays predictions and picks.

Yankees vs Rays Predictions & MLB Picks Today (7/10)
Tonight’s matchup marks the eighth encounter of the 2024 Yankees vs. Rays season series. With Tuesday’s encounter in the books, New York’s lead in the series has now dropped to 4-3 with six matchups to go.
Even though the Yankees have a slight edge over the Rays this year, it’s been tough to feel confident about the former lately. After opening the season with a 50-22 record, New York has dropped to 16 of its last 21 outings — including six of the last seven. The franchise also had five different multi-game losing streaks during that stretch.
One of the Yankees’ biggest issues is that their bats simply aren’t producing. Since June 15, the Bronx Bombers have been slashing an abysmal .223/.315/.379 compared to their season-long mark of .248/.329/.426. They also scored the 14th-fewest runs during that span and have been held to three or fewer runs in seven of their last 12 outings.
The Yankees’ bats must be more consistent if they hope to beat the Rays today.
As for the Rays, time will tell if yesterday’s victory was a fluke or not. After all, they were just swept by the Texas Rangers while being outscored 20-5 on aggregate. Those losses did take place on the road, though, and now the Rays at Tropicana Field, where they’re 6-2 SU across their last eight home games.
Additionally, Tampa Bay is a solid 4-2 SU in its last six home games against the Yankees. It’s also worth noting that New York has dropped seven of its last 10 encounters with a fellow AL East club.
The Yankees wouldn’t mind if RHP Marcus Stroman found a way to end his own struggles. The veteran righty has been getting eaten alive on the mound lately. In his last four starts, Stroman has tallied a 6.43 ERA after surrendering 15 earned runs on 20 hits with 11 walks across 21 innings.
At the same time, it’ll be interesting to see which version of Zach Eflin appears. On one hand, the Rays RHP is 3-0 with a 1.15 ERA in his last five road starts. On the other hand, Elfin also surrendered five earned runs on seven hits in five innings during his last start on Independence Day.
Rays RHP Zach Eflin has been electric at Tropicana Field. Will that trend continue tonight?
In a game that could go either way, I’ll stick with the Rays tonight. I just can’t bring myself to back the Yankees until they prove that they can put their current struggles in the rearview. Tampa Bay is perfect, but last night’s win was enough to convince me to side with the home team.
I also recommend backing the Over on the 8-run total. Of this season’s seven Yankees-Rays tilts thus far, five of those finished with at least eight total runs. The Overa is also 8-1 in New York’s last nine road games as well as 7-3 in its 10 previous AL East tilts.
With the Over hitting in 54.4% of Tampa Bay’s home games (8th), MLB bettors can expect some fireworks today.

Best Yankees vs Rays MLB Player Prop (7/10)
If you’re looking for a Yankees vs. Rays player prop, I suggest taking Yandy Diaz o1.5 total bases (+117).
Diaz has been playing well throughout the 2024 campaign, however, his play jumps to another level at Tropicana Field. In his last 13 home games, the 2023 batting leader is slashing .352/.375/.426 while recording 19 hits, a double, and one home run. Diaz amassed a total of 23 bases during that stretch (1.8 per game), finishing with the Over on this prop nine times.
If that isn’t convincing enough, the Over is now 4-2 in his last six encounters with the Yankees. Assuming that Stroman’s struggles on the mound continue, Diaz is in a good spot to pull through on this prop again.
Best Yankees vs. Rays MLB Prop Bet: Yandy Diaz o1.5 Total Bases (+117)
