For the second straight weekend and the third time in four weeks, the NASCAR Xfinity Series is doing its thing on a road course. After stops at Road America and Indianapolis Motor Speedway, this week’s stop is Watkins Glen for today’s Shriner’s Children’s 200 at the Glen (3:30 pm ET, USA).
In last week’s Pennzoil 150 at the Brickyard, A.J. Allmendinger was on pole, led 21 of 62 laps, and won the first two stages.
But Ty Gibbs led the most laps and led when it mattered, taking the checkered flag for his first Xfinity Series win since last year’s championship race at Phoenix Raceway.
Will Cup Series regulars dominate at Watkins Glen?
Allmendinger isn’t in the lineup for the Shriner’s Children’s 200 at the Glen, but Gibbs, Kyle Busch, Alex Bowman, and Ross Chastain will all be doing double duty this weekend. Gibbs, Busch, and Bowman sit at the top of the race odds ahead of qualifying (10:30 pm ET, NBC Sports app).

Shriner’s Children’s 200 at the Glen Predictions and Picks
With four races remaining in the Xfinity Series regular season, the Shriner’s Children’s 200 at the Glen will be an important race for a lot of drivers.
Entering this week’s race, most of the playoff spots are accounted for, whether by virtue of race wins or points.
Austin Hill and John Hunter Nemechek are locked in a tight battle for the regular season championship and the bonus points that come with it, with Hill now holding the upper hand after finishing fourth at IMS, nine spots ahead of Nemechek.
NASCAR Xfinity Series Points Standings (Through 22 Races)
Drivers in bold have won at least one race this season.
- 1. Austin Hill – 849 points
- 2. John Hunter Nemechek – 838
- 3. Justin Allgaier – 815
- 4. Cole Custer – 737
- 5. Josh Berry – 685
- 6. Sam Mayer – 682
- 7. Chandler Smith – 622
- 8. Daniel Hemric – 621
- 9. Riley Herbst – 605
- 10. Sheldon Creed – 588
- 11. Parker Kligerman – 571
- 12. Sammy Smith – 567
- 13. Brandon Jones – 523
- 14. Jeb Burton – 521
- 15. Brett Moffitt – 493
Hill may not be considered one of the favorites for the Shriner’s Children’s 200 at the Glen, but the points leader should once again be near the front.
Other than his 37th-place finish at Circuit of the Americas, Hill has been solid on the road courses this season.
His result last week was his fourth top-five in six road races in 2023, and he also finished eighth at Sonoma.
At both BetUS and Bovada, Hill is +300 to finish in the top five. Given his road results and his overall excellence–he has ten top-five finishes in his last 13 races–this value is way too good to pass up.
Another Xfinity Series regular to bet on this week is Sam Mayer. In his last four races, Mayer has finished second, first, fifth, and second.
This season, he has finished in the top ten in five of six road races, including his win at Road America, last week’s runner-up finish, and a third-place finish in Portland. At both BetUS and Bovada, Mayer is +220 for a fifth straight top five.
The other championship hopeful to cast an eye for Shriner’s Children’s 200 at the Glen betting is Justin Allgaier.
Pennzoil 150 at the Brickyard Results
- 1. Ty Gibbs
- 2. Sam Mayer
- 3. A.J. Allmendinger
- 4. Austin Hill
- 5. Justin Allgaier
- 6. Cole Custer
- 7. Parker Kligerman
- 8. Sheldon Creed
- 9. Kaz Grala
- 10. Brett Moffitt
Allgaier rounded out the top five at IMS, notching his fourth top-five on a road course this season and his first top five since The Loop 121 in Chicago. Allgaier also led 42 of 49 laps at Road America and won the first two stages before finishing 18th after a spin on the next-to-last lap.
Shifting gears to the Cup Series regulars, the Shriner’s Children’s 200 at the Glen will be Gibbs’ eighth Xfinity Series start of the season, his fourth on a road course.
Based on his results to date, he should be one of the top contenders for the win. In addition to last week’s win, he finished third at Circuit of the Americas, fourth at Sonoma.
But at -240 to finish in the top five and -180 to finish in the top three, the betting value isn’t there this week unless you are picking him to win.
Well, as it happens, that’s the move being made here. Yes, Busch is the more accomplished driver and won this race in 2017.
But Gibbs won at Watkins Glen in 2021, led 25 laps last year before finishing 27th, and has fared well in his Xfinity Series stints this season, other than having his race at Nashville ended by an accident after leading 28 laps and winning Stage 1.

With finishing position betting options limited to the top three and top five for the Shriner’s Children’s 200 at the Glen, some tough decisions had to be made this week.
Cole Custer and Parker Kligerman would be picks were top-ten finishes were also on the table, but they miss the cut for being picked to finish in the top five. Still, both are worth a look.
Custer was in contention for the regular season championship until finishing 22nd, 33rd, 30th, and 16th in consecutive races.
But he ended that run of disappointing finishes with a sixth-place finish at IMS. It was his fourth top-six finish on a road course this week, along with wins in Portland and in Chicago and a sixth-place finish at Sonoma. Custer was also running second at Road America before being caught up in a late accident caused him to finish 30th. At BetUS and Bovada, Custer is +140 for a top-five finish.
Kligerman may be 11th in the points, but he is winless this season and needs a strong result to aid his playoff hopes.
His seventh-place finish last week was his fourth on a road course this season, joining his Sonoma (fifth), Chicago (ninth), and Road America (second) results. At BetUS and Bovada, Kligerman is +375 for a top-five finish.
