It took a little longer than expected after taking a 2-0 lead on the Atlanta Hawks, but the Boston Celtics are in the second round of the NBA playoffs for the sixth time in seven seasons. To reach the Eastern Conference finals for the fifth time in this period, the reigning conference champions must see off the Philadelphia 76ers, who visit TD Garden for the series opener on Monday night (7:30 pm ET, TNT).
The second-seeded Celtics wrapped up a 4-2 series win over the Haws on Thursday night in Atlanta after missing an opportunity to close the series out at home, and after a few days off, they will get things going against the third-seeded 76ers.
The Sixers have had the longest break of any team in the second round, as they were the only team to win their first-round series in a sweep. After finishing off the Brooklyn Nets on April 22, they will now take another crack at reaching the Eastern Conference finals for the first time since 2001.
However, they look likely to open the series without their superstar seven-footer and this year’s prospective NBA MVP due to injury.

Can the Sixers Still Shine Without Embiid?
After having one of his best seasons health wise, the injury bug has bitten Embiid at the absolute worst time for the 76ers.
After dealing with knee pain and swelling during the series with the Nets, Embiid had an MRI following Game 3 and was ruled out for what would be the series-clinching win with what has been diagnosed as an LCL sprain.
Even having more than a week between the end of the Nets series and the start of their series with the Celtics may not be enough for Embiid to recover enough to be able to go in Monday’s opener, as he is listed as doubtful for the game.
Can the 76ers take a 1-0 lead without him?
They closed out the Nets with an eight-point win at Barclays Center without him, despite Tyrese Maxey (6 of 20) and James Harden (4 of 18) shooting a combined 26.3% from the field.
But that was the Nets, who were in the playoffs mostly on the strength of their record prior to trading Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. This is the Celtics, who are now favored to win this year’s NBA title, ahead of the Golden State Warriors, Denver Nuggets, and Phoenix Suns.
This season, the Sixers are 12-5 SU and ATS without Embiid, who has played in 69 of a possible 86 games this season. Of those 17 games, a dozen have been on the road, and Philly has been outstanding in those games, going 10-2 SU and 11-1-0 ATS without Embiid.
The SU losses are against the Charlotte Hornets on November 23 and the Denver Nuggets on March 27. The loss to Charlotte is also the lone ATS loss, as they covered as a ten-point underdog in a 116-111 loss in Denver.

This was my prop of choice for Game 5 between the Celtics and Hawks, and though Boston couldn’t get the job done, that bet won thanks to White going for 18 points.
White’s worst game of the first round was in the clincher, as he scored just seven points, but for the series, he averaged 17.3 PPG and shot 55.7% overall from the field, 45.7% from three, and 90.9% from the foul line.
The 76ers are undoubtedly a much better defensive team than the Hawks, but I still expect White to be a key contributor in this series.
In the four regular season meetings with Philly, White had three excellent performances.
