See Picks & Statistics For The GameThe Hawks vs Knicks series has not quite gone as projected, as the Hawks have made light work of one of the NBA’s best stories so far. Will the Knicks wake up in time to save their season, or are Trae Young and the Hawks bound for the second round?
This is a #4 vs. #5 series, so it was supposed to be close. However, as the series has progressed we have seen Atlanta play better and better, and New York doe not have the answers. I am not sure Atlanta is going to be a threat in the next round, but it has been nice to see Young’s development. He has been the biggest difference-maker in the series and one of the main reasons the Hawks are in such a comfortable spot as the series heads back to Madison Square Garden.

Atlanta Hawks vs New York Knicks Matchup: Picks, Odds, Stats and More
Atlanta Surprisingly in the Drivers Seat This Series
The Hawks took both games at home to take control of the series. The two wins in Atlanta were both by double digits, so it is a little surprising that the Hawks are not favored hitting the road for Game 5.
Trae Young has been masterful in this series. He is averaging 27 points per game and 10 assists per game. That shows the ability to share the ball while also making the Knicks pay when they lose track of him.
I am not sure of Atlanta’s true ceiling because it is hard to see who, other than Young, would step up in a big series against the likes of Philadelphia, Milwaukee, or Brooklyn. Young would have to go “Dame Time”, and I am not sure he has it in him just yet.
The Hawks are the consensus spread play, which is why the line has come down a full point since it opened.
The Knicks Are Back Home, But Is That Enough to Turn Things Around?
If this is the final game of the year, the Knicks can still call the season a success. I don’t think anyone saw them in the playoffs, even with the play-in tournament this season increasing their chances.
New York might be encouraged by the fact that Julius Randle and RJ Barrett both had good scoring games in Game 4, with both hitting the 20-point mark. Unfortunately, that was nowhere near enough as the defense crumbled, giving up a series high of 113 points in the 17 point loss.
It is not a surprise that the one game the Knicks won, Game 2, was also the one where their defense was the stingiest. They held the Hawks to just 92 points in Game 2. Now they have to figure out how to get Randle and Barrett going while also playing with that level of defensive intensity. I suppose it shouldn’t be too hard given what we saw during the season, and that is why the Knicks are small favorites in Game 5. The favorite has won three of four games in this series.
There is some interesting action on this one given the spread is so small. New York is not seeing much love at -1.5, but they are on the money line.
